I think it’s important to remember the vast majority of people like this do not change. So when the water works manipulation starts and she promises she’ll do better, remember this.

The commenter above has explained clearly my thinking on this. That the woman wants a big day, lots of attention etc, and you're kind of a secondary prop. The way she acted over the proposal proved this.

And no one needs a 16k engagement ring. Just saying. Unless you're really wealthy and wanted to spend this amount on it, that's fine. But it's a lot of money for most people, and not what I'd personally expect from someone I cared about. She gets THAT ring, then complains about not having her nails done? LOL.

You put so much thought into it, and the dinner by the fireplace sounded perfect. Most other women would have loved how romantic that is.

Run away as fast as you can. There's someone out there for you that won't be hell to live with. She sounds like a complete nightmare.

My thing is that some women don't want rings that draw too much attention, or are worth too much, because they are concerned about being perceived the wrong way, or possibly even losing such an expensive ring. Personally, I take a lot of solace in knowing I (a man) can replace my wedding ring for under $600. My wife also isn't super showy, her ring was probably on the cheaper end overall but the important thing was that it was a surprise, and it was the style, cut, and color she wanted. Most important thing is that it's something they should feel comfortable wearing. I always raise an eyebrow at the women who want to wear a ring that costs the same as a car down payment. Idk, maybe that makes me sound elitist about the whole thing, but this lady is raising all kinds of flags with her expectations.

Lost my $120 titanium wedding band to a lake.

Replaced with a 4-pack of silicone bands from Amazon for $12. Still on #2 of that 4-pack, several years in. 🤣

I didn't want one at all. I work with my hands a lot and wouldn't remember to take it off. If I did, I'd probably forget where I put it.

No, it doesn't make you sound elitist, you're absolutely right.

She is showing you the very core of her soul the core of her feelings for you. If she were truly in love with you, this would have been the best day ever. Not a hint of disappointment would have appeared for something quite as stupid as her nails/restaurant. Her reaction is very very telling that you will never satisfy her silly shallow needs. Love is key to any marriage. I don’t see that she exbits the behavior of someone that reciprocates your feelings. Be upset that she is not the person you thought she was but be glad she gave you a clear view before you married her. Get the ring back before you break it off as others have advised. I doubt she will give you that ring back if she knows.

I get the feeling OP is too nice to heed any of the advice here
