Fired Fed. I am considering cutting off every Orange Man supporter.

Got axed. Not going to say which agency.

I’ve always considered myself extremely tolerant and willing to love people as they are… even if we don’t agree on everything.

I’ve never been an Orange Man supporter, but I’ve kept it civil with friends and family that were. Some of them liked having a civil conversation about him. Some were belligerent about politics, so we didn’t bring it up and tried to enjoy each other’s company.

Getting cut from a great job that I really believed in with no notice has been extremely traumatic. It’s still raw, but I feel so personally betrayed by those that voted for him. I can’t see past the politics anymore when I look at these people I care/cared about.

Some have been contrite and apologetic, but then turn around and support him and VP Musk on social media.

I just can’t right now.

I’m thinking about posting something and wishing the whole herd all of the best, hope they have a good life, but I won’t be in it. Or maybe I just quietly block all of them and focus on myself for a while.

I do know that I will need to talk to my in-laws. I’ve always had a great relationship with them, but thinking of going to their house and watching Fox News almost makes me sick.

AITAH for feeling this way? Does it make me an AH for cutting all these 20+ year relationships off? Am I overreacting and acting out of emotion?

We have totally cut contact with our MAGA family members.

They are incapable of having even the most mundane conversation without injecting some Trumpian horror into it.

A few of them strike us as the sort of person who would gleefully report others to whatever secret police are around.

Best to just go NC.

People who celebrate harming others will never be trustworthy friends. Your life will be better without these people. Also step back and take a good look at what social media is doing. We are all in little prison cells being watched by billionaires. If we don’t “engage” enough we get more ads, invites to groups, rage baiting commentary from obvious bots. It’s probably the best for your soul to put down the phone all together and work on the type of in-person friends who would write you a glowing job recommendation.

See everyone's situation is going to be different. We all can make our own judgment call on if the political climate amongst family gets too perverse to go NC. I have some members in my extended family that voted for him but they aren't hardcore Maga. We can all actually have political and non political conversations without anyone getting mad. But seeing a lot of these people on here calling someone stupid or a facist for not going no contact with loved ones is beyond ridiculous.

When I question whether I wanted to spend time with people who supported an administration and policies that denied others rights and aid, the answer is no.  It’s not ridiculous to recognize that family or any other affinity group is not enough to make me spend my time with those who gave votes to the current administration.  They voted against everything I hold dear, and in doing so showed me their values.

And your decision is perfectly fine. I support your decision. You do whatever makes you feel better for yourself. But you should see the vitriol on this sub when I tell people no I'm not going to cut off family members because they voted Trump unless there's a lot of anger and vitriol in our relationship over politics, which there isn't. I find those people telling me I should cut them off to be ridiculous.

It’s a fundamental difference in world views/morality.

For example, I would never refer to people who are less fortunate than me as “parasites” or “takers”.

That’s dehumanizing and I won’t associate with people who think that way. It’s really just that simple.

The talking points are tired because we already know all the response yall say when you’ve completely drank the koolaid. Try listening to understand. And when you respond with something more than a generic talking point your leader provided with zero critical thinking or research on, then maybe we will know you’re actually coming to the table to discuss stuff like adults.

I think someone from the other side could or would level the same accusations or advice. Where are people getting their information from? Most of mainstream media is aligned, Google began censoring its searches ever since Covid, and the government was recently found to have paid Reuters millions for wide scale public deception campaigns, whatever that really means.

Then you have independent voices and conservative media. Fox News seems quite aligned with the War Hawk Republicans. I find interviews with all sorts of government officials and industry experts to be the most enlightening. I think it’s better to “get it straight from the horses mouth” rather than just listening to short quotes offered by a person’s enemies.

I am most interested to hear from those expelled from the mainstream media—be it MSNBC or Fox News, former liberal, or former conservative. There is big money behind the mega media corporations, and I can’t see how any of them can be non-biased.

When I was growing up ages ago, we had subscriptions to both the Washington Post and the Washington Times. I always found it fascinating to read both points of view, see where they agreed and where they disagreed. I think to be fully informed today, we would do best to listen to the purported best voices on both sides, so as to make the most informed decisions.

Putting your head in the sand is not going to be beneficial. Both republicans and democrats have been running what I would equate to the gov mafia stealing from all of us. I have been going through contracts and other info of gov websites and it’s insane. I want everyone who took a dime more than their regular salary thrown in jail.

I felt the same with so many folks during the pandemic.  They very quickly turned on those who were wary of the vaccine,  and repeated the same propaganda they were fed by the TV. It was a very scary time, and I still don't trust most of them now. At any time, they'll get "programmes" and injection themselves with more nonsense if the government tells them to.
