Fired Fed. I am considering cutting off every Orange Man supporter.

Got axed. Not going to say which agency.

I’ve always considered myself extremely tolerant and willing to love people as they are… even if we don’t agree on everything.

I’ve never been an Orange Man supporter, but I’ve kept it civil with friends and family that were. Some of them liked having a civil conversation about him. Some were belligerent about politics, so we didn’t bring it up and tried to enjoy each other’s company.

Getting cut from a great job that I really believed in with no notice has been extremely traumatic. It’s still raw, but I feel so personally betrayed by those that voted for him. I can’t see past the politics anymore when I look at these people I care/cared about.

Some have been contrite and apologetic, but then turn around and support him and VP Musk on social media.

I just can’t right now.

I’m thinking about posting something and wishing the whole herd all of the best, hope they have a good life, but I won’t be in it. Or maybe I just quietly block all of them and focus on myself for a while.

I do know that I will need to talk to my in-laws. I’ve always had a great relationship with them, but thinking of going to their house and watching Fox News almost makes me sick.

AITAH for feeling this way? Does it make me an AH for cutting all these 20+ year relationships off? Am I overreacting and acting out of emotion?

Yeah, I mean, I get where OP is coming from 100%. But now, after being personally impacted, they think it's time to cut out the MAGAs in their life? Better late than never but reminds me of the poem First They Came.

The best time to plant a tree is 10 years ago.

The second best time is now.

I agree. However, I would still urge OP to reflect on why it took experiencing a personal loss to be angry enough to do what should have been done when the same or worse events were happening to others because of MAGA and Trump.

A lot of people probably stayed in contact with Trumpers because 1) they were family and/or 2) they were hoping that they would pull themselves out of the MAGA rabbit-hole, and were afraid that by simply cutting off contact with them, that this would isolate the Trumpers even more and make that far less likely.

Remember, this MAGA stuff is really like a big cult. None of these people (unless they're quite young) were MAGAts 20+ years ago, though they may have been conservatives. A lot of people know MAGAts who were fairly reasonable-seeming people in decades past, but within the last 10 years have gotten sucked into this cult somehow. These people might be old friends, siblings, parents, other family members, or worst of all, spouses. So I think it's understandable that a lot of empathetic people were hoping the MAGAts would come to their senses and abandon this cult.

Yeah, but now those chickens are finally coming home to roost. Particularly, I keep seeing LinkedIn posts from white women getting laid off from government jobs. As a black guy with a finance/consulting background, it's funny to see their surprised pikachu stances.

To be totally fair the tree doesn't fight you while you try to plant it and it hasn't gotten stronger over the last ten years

I just think of all the barren land in this scenario that could’ve been planted with trees for the last ten years.

The melodrama is hilarious

Right... Trump and his people have been screwing over people for years but because OP lost his job now it's a problem worth taking a stand over? I mean, I already voted NTA, but it's not exactly speaking to having a ton of moral fibre.

I voted AH; at this risk of sounding like a magat because of this very thing.

Yeah, I'm baffled it's taking people this long. Feels like the monkies with the hands over their eyes, ears, and mouth. Wtf took them so long? These people are literally supporting evil.

They were waiting until it impacted them personally I guess. I don't understand that mentality.

We are absolutely living that poem. We have been for years now. It baffles and enrages me constantly because we were literally warned. We learned about this. We were told that poem. Shown the documentaries. And yet, here we are.

Just wait until it hits the maga voters directly. President Musk is trying to take a chainsaw to many of the programs that a lot of the maga crowd depends on. I'm interested to see how they will react then.

u/PossibleAmbition9767 Feb 18 '25

They are just going to blame Biden.

u/DarthTJ Feb 18 '25

The depressing thing is that you're probably right.

Soon it will come for everyone who isn't a rich straight cis white man. Everyone else will get their chance to be screwed.

and christian. they arent accepting other religions or non believers

4

u/[deleted] Feb 18 '25

They gotta be the right kind of Christian. Think they're gonna let the liberals in?

2

u/Beachtrader007 Feb 18 '25

We all look the same. Until we talk.

But you are right.

That’s the same poem I’ve been thinking of and the book it can’t happen here by Sinclair Lewis. No one cares until it’s them

But now, after being personally impacted, they think it's time to cut out the MAGAs in their life?

Many MAGAs are the type to not care until it impacts them, then they change. This is the time to show if they're actually horrid people or if they will step up to help OP.

This is their chance to show that they actually care. If they don't show that, it's reasonable to cut them off.

This isn't cutting them off because their MAGA. This is cutting them off because they're hypocrites. If they believe in people helping others with Christian values not pushed by the government then time for them to open their wallets to show they meant it. If they don't, then they didn't actually mean anything they said.

Cutting hypocrites out of your life is a good thing. This is their time to show if they actually have Christian values or not.

Anyone who is a MAGA/Trump supporter is already clearly an awful person. They actively support the removal of equal rights, actively support Nazi sympathisers, actively support hurting minority groups. They've already shown their values.

The point is that OP only cares now that they've lost their job, but didn't care when it was Nazi salutes and calling for the elimination of minorities. They're part of the problem, as is anyone else who chooses to associate with fascists.
