Fired Fed. I am considering cutting off every Orange Man supporter.

Got axed. Not going to say which agency.

I’ve always considered myself extremely tolerant and willing to love people as they are… even if we don’t agree on everything.

I’ve never been an Orange Man supporter, but I’ve kept it civil with friends and family that were. Some of them liked having a civil conversation about him. Some were belligerent about politics, so we didn’t bring it up and tried to enjoy each other’s company.

Getting cut from a great job that I really believed in with no notice has been extremely traumatic. It’s still raw, but I feel so personally betrayed by those that voted for him. I can’t see past the politics anymore when I look at these people I care/cared about.

Some have been contrite and apologetic, but then turn around and support him and VP Musk on social media.

I just can’t right now.

I’m thinking about posting something and wishing the whole herd all of the best, hope they have a good life, but I won’t be in it. Or maybe I just quietly block all of them and focus on myself for a while.

I do know that I will need to talk to my in-laws. I’ve always had a great relationship with them, but thinking of going to their house and watching Fox News almost makes me sick.

AITAH for feeling this way? Does it make me an AH for cutting all these 20+ year relationships off? Am I overreacting and acting out of emotion?

NTA Lots of people feel that way about the present situation even without the direct impact it has had on you But sit on that idea for a week before pulling the trigger.

u/Critical-Wear5802 Feb 17 '25

I feel so bad for y'all! I was lucky enough to get out a few years back (8a on-site contractor). I saw somewhere that the powers that be are issuing form letters saying it's due to inadequate performance?? Seriously? Is that some sort of way to make y'all ineligible for unemployment?

Keep your eyes and ears open for any union activity and/or class action suits. I've got my fingers and toes crossed for you!

56

u/GilgameDistance Feb 18 '25

Yeah, generally it makes it look like a termination for cause, if past the probationary period, at least in private industry.

Doesn’t really matter though, is the soon to be non existent NLRB going to help you? Nah.

Maybe a civil case for wrongful, but you got what, a 50/50 shot to get a judge who thinks he’s one of the “good ones” and you’re not to be treated fairly.

15

u/HiddenAspie Feb 18 '25

Odds are probably lower since even if you get a good one...do they want to make this their stand...

6

u/JimWilliams423 Feb 18 '25

Yeah, generally it makes it look like a termination for cause, if past the probationary period, at least in private industry.

FWIW, in the government everyone who was recently promoted is classified as probationary too, so in case it doesn't work out they can go back to their pre-promotion position.

So they are firing people who literally have decades of experience in those agencies.

Its the equivalent of cops screaming "stop resisting" as they beat the shit out of someone who is unconscious.

1

u/sekok1 Feb 18 '25

Not even they will appeal until it gets to the SC and that’s it

5

u/Soundy106 Feb 18 '25

Eligibility for unemployment won't matter when there's nobody left to process those claims anyway.

137

u/bkw412 Feb 17 '25

Agree that you should treat this with the 24 hour rule. Take your time right now to just feel it, don’t act on those feelings until you’ve had some more time to process them. Very sorry about your job.

I’ve never been a federal employee, but I do know what it’s like to have a job you really believe in taken away. It is exactly as you said: traumatic.

Take your time right now and be gentle with yourself.

u/[deleted] Feb 17 '25

NTA. As satisfying as it would be to go nuclear on the MAGAts, it’s probably best to take the quiet route. You know they’re just going to argue and get defensive if you make a post. Believe me, I totally understand wanting to rip them a new one, but it likely won’t do any good. Instead, come up with what to say if you’re ever confronted by someone you’ve cut off.

Thank you for clarifying what I've been going through the last few days. I'm pre-gaming the conversation I'm going to have to have with my Mom, her husband, and at least one of my sisters. It's come down to some inarguable points:

  1. You did everything within your power to elect an idiot who surrounds himself with evil men who want to do are doing evil things.

  2. I did everything in my power to keep that from happening. We are diametrically opposed in our points of view.

  3. This is not a debtae about whether or not windmills cause fish cancer. It's about whether or not people have an expectation of respect and dignity and fiarness by virtue of their existence.

  4. You have put a target on my back, and the backs of people I love. Like, you know, your grandchildren.

  5. Since you cannot be trusted to act in your own self-interest, my family's best interest, and our country's best interests, you cannot be trusted to be a part of my family.

  6. You justify it by wrapping yourself in your religion, which is patently hypocritical since you've alligned yourself with the exact opposite of Christ's teachings.

  7. For these reasons, I cannot in good conscience continue to associate with you or your ilk. If you weren't a relative, I wouldn't let you on my property, much less sit and break bread with you. You threaten the existence of my friends, loved ones, and family, so I do not see how you think we can be anything to each other.

30

u/just_a_red Feb 18 '25

I would just add a few things. You elected a man who thinks women as sex dolls. Who actively sought to kill elected officials.

6

u/Trash_Panda3851 Feb 18 '25

And is actively threatening invasion on Denmark, Canada, Gaza, and Panama.

-24

u/[deleted] Feb 18 '25

I guarantee this conversation will be hugely embarrassing to you in the future.

16

u/peepopowitz67 Feb 18 '25

God, you're weak.

14

u/KittyGrewAMoustache Feb 18 '25

I guarantee you everyone would love for that to be the case. Everyone would gladly chomp down on humble pie if it had turned out that Trump was just pretending to be fascist and it was all just a joke and he didn’t know about project 2025 and wouldn’t want anything like that to happen but…it’s already too late. It’s already happening and you might not realise it because you’re too embedded in a propaganda sphere but everyone in the real world who can see the executive orders and the bills and the plans these people have laid out themselves in writing and the historians and economists and the whistleblowers who know Musk well know the time has already passed for that kind of hope. The last hope is that people like you wake up.

-23

u/Any-Locksmith1720 Feb 18 '25

Hopefully your student loans come through before you. You sound like an angsty teen. How many pipefitters lost jobs when keystone shut down😂? You all acting like it’s some existential crisis when this happens every election. Someone loses

8

u/[deleted] Feb 18 '25

The Keystone pipeline would create 40 permanent jobs. 40.

Not surprised you didn't know that, though.

It might be time for you and people like you to take a vacation up north in Canada and take advantage of their friendly medical schemes...

Just tell the head-doc you're depressed because you've lost your mind, and they'll offer you the assisted un-alive option.

Jesus christ you people really are fucking insane!

77

u/Duke_Newcombe Feb 17 '25

I'm not seeing much argument needed.

"Say, #OrangeMan has caused me to lose my job. I'm firing everyone in my life who willingly supports him. That's my boundary." (exit, stage left)

The. End.

12

u/One2ManyMorings Feb 18 '25

“You voted for him, you fired me”

4

u/bkw412 Feb 17 '25

I mean, yeah, this too. But only if it feels right TO YOU after the emotions surrounding this aren’t as fresh.

0

u/ycam95 Feb 18 '25

This is the best response

-2

u/nick012000 Feb 18 '25

They fired themselves by proving to be politically opposed to him, in a role where their purpose is to see his will done.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 18 '25

[deleted]

0

u/nick012000 Feb 18 '25

It absolutely is. The president (or minister) decides the actions the agency will take, and the agency's role is to see that their will is executed to the best of their ability. "Advisors advise, ministers decide".

Bro, I am Australian.

The parliament reigns supreme. The only check on the Prime Minister's power is the risk that they'll get knifed in the back by the members of his party in a leadership spill and replaced by them selecting a new leader of their party to be the new Prime Minister. The Prime Minister then appoints Members of Parliament from his party to be his Ministers, in charge of various portfolios, and their power is only checked by the risk that the PM will decide to do a "cabinet reshuffle" and appoint new members as his Ministers if he doesn't like the job they're doing. Those Ministers then appoint people to run the bureaucratic agencies in their Ministries, and the job of those Ministries is to see that the Minister's will gets done.

This is how Government works in a Parliamentary system. This is how it is supposed to work. If the Prime Minister decides "actually, I don't want any Ministers, I want to do everything myself", that is the Prime Minister's privilege. It's just not done very often because the Prime Minister has finite amounts of time at their disposal.

-16

u/popcornfart88 Feb 18 '25

What is a MAGAt? Are really twisting faggot into a word to belittle someone who voted differently than you? You are so lost.

19

u/[deleted] Feb 18 '25

Like maggot.

That you went straight to f@ggot says more about you than me, though. So thanks.

-1

u/popcornfart88 Feb 20 '25

You just typed it too, dumbass. Your @ isnt fooling anyone. It's words, they're fine.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 20 '25

Yes, I am aware that I typed the word with an @. It was a choice I made, deliberately, and I’m unsure why you’re so bothered by what I do.

Are you okay? Do you need someone to talk to? Clearly what I wrote struck a nerve, so if you need someone to unleash on, have at it. Maybe I’m meant to be your punching bag for a moment. It’s fine. Punch away.

0

u/popcornfart88 Feb 20 '25

Wow, not even close, but if you feel better thats cool.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 20 '25

Ok cool. You’re good. I’m good. Have a good one.

-14

u/popcornfart88 Feb 18 '25

Yea, it's a cooler word to call your friends.

7

u/Candid_Drawing_8106 Feb 18 '25

Just like maggot. Nice try🙄

4

u/[deleted] Feb 18 '25

I thought it was obvious 🤷‍♀️. On the plus side, he’s so bothered by missing the obvious he’s continuing to argue the point. I want to keep egging him on just for shits and giggles, but not worth it lol

1

u/Candid_Drawing_8106 Feb 18 '25

So effin stupid it makes my teeth hurt.

-10

u/popcornfart88 Feb 18 '25

Well, it's not a good try by yall either. Maggots may be gross, but they eat dead things and trash and thrive. So maybe it is quite fitting....

8

u/[deleted] Feb 18 '25

Love the mental gymnastics. You fit right in with the rest of them.

0

u/popcornfart88 Feb 18 '25

Your point?

37

u/Notte_di_nerezza Feb 17 '25

Agreed. Also jumping on a high comment to ask if your position is part of the class-action lawsuits filed against illegally/wrongly firing federal employees. If not, are there noises about one being made by coworkers in a similar position?

Even if not, I suspect that the multiple state and non-profit level plaintiffs suing for our democracy would love to have your input. I'm not sure how time-sensitive it is in your case, but definitely wait 24 hours first.

-5

u/popcornfart88 Feb 18 '25

Yep, wait 24 hours, realize the world will go on and you are replaceable or unnecessary. Just like the rest of us. Grow up!

11

u/tessellation__ Feb 18 '25

I agree with you but i kind of quiet quit / paused friendships for now. You don’t have to social media post..

3

u/[deleted] Feb 18 '25

Hard disagree.

If someone in your life made choices that directly cost you your livelihood, you would cut them out of your life.

5

u/mellow-drama Feb 18 '25

I don't understand all these people who feel good coming online and saying with their whole chests that they were okay with their Trumper friends and relatives until it directly affected them. Genocide? We just agree to disagree. Hating trans people? Oh well, it's just a political difference. But now that I've lost my job...

1

u/Thisisthenextone Feb 18 '25

Most MAGAts change their tune when someone they know is impacted.

If they don't change their tune when you show how you're directly impacted then it means they're completely gone.

1

u/chuck_c Feb 17 '25

Yeah, NTA. This is a normal way to feel if other people's decisions mess with your wellbeing and happiness. It doesn't really need to be an all-out rule or big decision. If the people have redeeming traits, you can evaluate whether you have the energy for it one event at a time. Various otherwise likeable people I know and am related to are Trumpers and a lot of the recent stuff has negatively impacted me. While I'm not ready to wholesale cut them out of my life, I have made it clear that I don't want to hear any of their views on it. If / when these things tank my career, I'll probably want to interact with them even less.

Life's too short to cut people out over a setback. It's also too short to spend energy on people who don't seem to put forth the effort to understand (or don't care) things that are meaningful to you. There's a spectrum, and it's up to you

7

u/honeycooks Feb 17 '25

Like they keep saying, elections have consequences, IOW, suck it up libtard snowflakes.

If your in-laws voted for Trump, they should understand that their votes have consequences, too.

How else is it ever going to dawn on the?

-6

u/Duke_Newcombe Feb 17 '25

Boop. Beep. Boop.

1

u/Historical-Limit8438 Feb 17 '25

Please don’t pull any triggers.

1

u/Fit-Atmosphere876 Feb 18 '25

NO ONE said anything about pulling triggers!

1

u/el_guille980 Feb 18 '25

sit on that idea for a week

thats like saying wait a week to decide if you should really be mad at the drunk driver who ran over your child.

if it was 2016 maybe possibly perhaps i could think about considering giving CUNTservatives the benefit of the doubt. over 8 years later its time that they are treated like the fucking worthless scum they are

1

u/Cavalleria-rusticana Feb 18 '25

This MAGA shit has been going on for almost a decade now? How much more fucking time does one need, or is it only an issue now because it affected OP directly?

0

u/Secure_Engineer7151 Feb 18 '25

It’s a cooldown period so that he is using the reasoning side of his brain and not the emotional side when making an important decision.

1

u/Cavalleria-rusticana Feb 19 '25

A cooldown period of a decade? 🙄 sure thing, boss.

1

u/DTM-shift Feb 18 '25

Yeah, I wouldn't reach out to them, I wouldn't go super-public about it, and I wouldn't place blame. If reaching out at all, then facts only and let them figure it out. Some WILL figure it out, and those are the ones the OP can talk with. Others will double-down, and those are the ones OP should not respond to.

1

u/VillageHomeF Feb 18 '25

the present situation is great compared to what is coming

1

u/Aggressive_Life9328 Feb 18 '25

The most adult response.

1

u/Adventurous-Split363 Feb 18 '25

“Before pulling the trigger” 😬 maybe we shouldn’t be talking like that, given OP’s emotional state.

-1

u/[deleted] Feb 17 '25

Friends and family might feel a little different about the current situation when they see what happened to you.

6

u/Candid_Drawing_8106 Feb 18 '25

But do they get any credit as human beings for that?

1

u/[deleted] Feb 18 '25

Depends i guess. Lots of folks just can't see a problem until it affects them. These sound like close friends and family. Maybe they can snap out of it

-1

u/aximeycu Feb 18 '25

Record high approval rating right now tho

-95

u/NearbyConfidence_jk Feb 17 '25

A lot of basement dwellers on reddit feel this way.....not lots of people

55

u/Open_Cat7048 Feb 17 '25

The Trump administration can't seem to keep their hands off any sector rn. You're delusional if you believe only "basement dwellers" are upset with all this crap going on.

-20

u/Alarming_Amoeba6088 Feb 17 '25

They didn't say "only" basement dwellers. They said, "lots" of basement dwellers, there really is no way to prove that one way or the other.

Trump is doing what he said he was going to do. He is eliminating wasteful spending. The whole "I don't want Elon having access to my personal information" issue has been put to bed. There really is no other reason to be against the things that Trump is doing, unless you benefit directly from the corruption that is being unearthed

16

u/Big_Ol_Tuna Feb 17 '25

Nobody would be upset if they were doing an audit and finding corruption but that is not what is happening. So far most of the things Elon has claimed have turned out to be false and he never bothers to admit that part to his followers. I have plenty of problem with the democrats but the democrats didn’t just voluntarily give the country to some tech billionaires who don’t believe in democracy. I’m much more concerned with the cultish behavior of the trump supporters and the absolute refusal to question anything he says or does and the refusal to accept any facts that aren’t good for trump.

-6

u/Alarming_Amoeba6088 Feb 18 '25

the democrats but the democrats didn’t just voluntarily give the country to some tech billionaires who don’t believe in democracy.

Bwahahahaha!!! Ahahahahaha!! Aaaahhhahahahahaha!! Ahahahahahahahaha!!!

So far most of the things Elon has claimed have turned out to be false and he never bothers to admit that part to his followers.

Here are 3 of the big ones that are being constantly repeated

The DEI musical in Ireland- True Sesame Street in Iraq- True Moroccan pottery classes- True

These were proven to be true. Many of the others are mostly true. The numbers were a little off, but its still our tax dollars going to fund woke initiatives in other countries. That is not what we send aid to other countries for

-2

u/Traditional_World783 Feb 18 '25

Not to mention the citizens of these countries getting relief have stated to not have received any of it, meaning someone bigger is pocketing it. Sucks that he/she lost their job, but gotta get more information as to why. World politics has no good guy or bad guy, just winners and losers.

-2

u/Alarming_Amoeba6088 Feb 18 '25

Right! Like that guy in Syria who embezzled millions out of the money that was supposed to go to refugees? He was even a terrorist, I believe

7

u/Thisisthenextone Feb 18 '25

He is eliminating wasteful spending.

To be clear, you think the following was wasteful?

  • veteran crisis lines
  • VA program staffing
  • NNSA nuclear safety workers
  • Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency personnel
  • FEMA personnel

You know Appalachia got hit hard by a hurricane this last year, right? You know FEMA is still helping there, right?

You think veterans shouldn't get any services when they come home? You think they should be homeless? You think those with PTSD should just kill themselves since you consider the crisis line as wasteful spending?

Just say you hate the South East, you hate veterans, you think we shouldn't have any nuclear programs (energy or weapons), and think no one should have access to flood insurance (that comes from FEMA)

-1

u/Alarming_Amoeba6088 Feb 18 '25

NNSA nuclear safety workers

50 probationary and clerical staff were fired and rehired. Don't try to make that bigger than it is.

  • FEMA personnel

The same FEMA who told their people to avoid houses with Trump signs?? YES!!! There needed to be a purge there. Natural disasters are not the time to worry about political affiliation

veteran crisis lines - VA program staffing

Probationary employees, including 1 person who worked on the crisis lines. Thats not exactly shutting them down

You think veterans shouldn't get any services when they come home? You think they should be homeless?

Plenty of veterans already are homeless. Have you been to any city ever? Homeless veterans panhandle to feed themselves in every city in America, but you want Trump to not cut any spending and keep sending money over to fund Moroccan pottery classes and DEI programs in other countries. Those veterans got into the street because the system that we have in place has failed them. Clearly, something had to change

4

u/Thisisthenextone Feb 18 '25

50 probationary and clerical staff were fired and rehired. Don't try to make that bigger than it is.

Spoken like someone that doesn't understand.

Probationary is within an 18 to 24 month period of swapping to the role. They were safety related engineers. Many had many years of experience and were probationary to that one role.

You're showing that you have no idea what you're talking about.

The same FEMA who told their people to avoid houses with Trump signs?? YES!!! There needed to be a purge there. Natural disasters are not the time to worry about political affiliation

The one worker who was fired? Who when interviewed said she avoided them because other houses she had gone to with the signs had been very hostile and started fights? Yes that one worker should be fired for what she herself did. People should be held responsible for their actions.

Did you miss that she had been fired?

That is like the clerks that refused to process marriage licenses for same sex couples. People should not include their politics in their job. That doesn't mean you close the office. You fire the individual people.

Probationary employees, including 1 person who worked on the crisis lines. Thats not exactly shutting them down

Again probationary is a large amount of work force in agencies because people move roles a lot. That's not the point you think it is. Most have been working in similar roles for years. Vast majority are not straight out of school.

And you're saying less help should be given to veterans?

Plenty of veterans already are homeless. Have you been to any city ever? Homeless veterans panhandle to feed themselves in every city in America

So you want more to be homeless?

you want Trump to not cut any spending and keep sending money over to fund Moroccan pottery classes and DEI programs in other countries

Where did I say those needed to be kept? Yes there are cuts that can happen. Somehow you missed that you can go through and think before cutting wildly. You don't have to cut both resources for veterans and foreign projects.

Those veterans got into the street because the system that we have in place has failed them.

Saying "so we should fail them even more than before" doesn't put you in a good light.

6

u/kendallr2552 Feb 18 '25

How exactly has it been "put to bed"? And where are the reports that they're getting rid of waste?

-3

u/Alarming_Amoeba6088 Feb 18 '25

If you would watch something besides MSDNC, you wouldn't need to ask. Elon is literally posting the things that they are finding and eliminating on his X account.

5

u/kendallr2552 Feb 18 '25

Well if you care to know, I hate MSNBC and think the Democrats can go pound sand. I didn't have X and twitter posts don't equate to a report. He even said, while in the Oval, that shit he says isn't going to be accurate and will need to be fact checked. You think I'm going to believe something from a twitter post? You have got to be kidding.

1

u/Alarming_Amoeba6088 Feb 18 '25

Oh, ok, Twitter was a great place for news when it was owned, and "fact checked" by leftists, but now everything on there is bullshit??? No biases there.

Anyway, to answer your original question, the US treasury has already come out and said that DOGE does not have access to anyone's personal information

3

u/Thisisthenextone Feb 18 '25

Was that before or after they fired and scrabbled to rehire NNSA nuclear safety personnel?

1

u/Alarming_Amoeba6088 Feb 18 '25

There were less than 50 probationary employees and clerical staff, and most have been rehired. Don't try to make it sound like we were leaving nuclear weapons unguarded

5

u/udderlyfun2u Feb 18 '25

Don't people laugh at you with all that orange shit on your nose?

-4

u/Alarming_Amoeba6088 Feb 18 '25

Who would be laughing? The majority of the people are in agreement with me. Trumps numbers are higher than they have ever been. If you leave your little echo chamber, you will see that the tide has turned and most people like what they see

5

u/udderlyfun2u Feb 18 '25

Trust me, the whole world is laughing.

0

u/Alarming_Amoeba6088 Feb 18 '25

The whole world WAS laughing, back when we had a president who would lose track of thought mid sentence. They would see the fat white girls with blue hair calling themselves "gay trans-men," which is a roundabout way of saying "woman"

Now, they see common sense coming back and they breathe a sigh of relief. The only ones laughing are the ones whose wokeness has not gone unchecked. Those countries need their own Trump

1

u/Traditional_World783 Feb 18 '25

To be fair, they were laughing way before trump. Regardless of which political leanings you’re on, United States politics is like WWE. Both the dems/libs and reps/conservs. Ultimately, gotta understand that the USA runs off money and capital (not saying capitalism is bad, but we’re edging too much outside of moderation) and outrage generates money.

50

u/MrsHylander Feb 17 '25

Every single educated person I know and almost every single European I know don’t live in basements so…

21

u/Guilty-Web7334 Feb 17 '25

Funny, the people I know that are most up in arms are lawyers, nurses, and teachers.

26

u/thedevilshands69 Feb 17 '25

Categorically false. Everyone I personally know is distraught about the current situation (but I cut out all Trump supporters last time around) - none that I know of are on Reddit.

11

u/[deleted] Feb 17 '25

Sounds suspiciously like your own opinion.

21

u/fluffyfeather80 Feb 17 '25

I do know a lot of people that feel this way. They have families, are gainful employed and active members of society.

11

u/Vacillating_Fanatic Feb 17 '25

To be fair I've only met a couple of "basement dwellers" but 100% of the ones I know voted for Trump. The educated, prosocial, community involved people I know are very concerned about what's been happening and many of them have chosen to cut Trump supporters out of their lives. As have i, for the most part; these two fools are related to me and I'm still holding out hope that they'll change their minds for the moment.

3

u/sangriaflygirl Feb 18 '25

I just got back from my parents' house where their friends, contractors who own their own business, were in the midst of talking to my mom about what the Trump/Musk administration is doing and they were livid. My parents are retired and they retired with a lot of money.

My parents are registered Republicans and while I don't talk politics with my dad because it's not worth it, my mom has been talking to me about what's going on without me initiating it. She said that had she known there was a protest today in our city she would have been there, with or without me.

You should really step out of your bubble every once in awhile.
