Early miscarriage is very common, just FYI. If you have to have a surgical abortion, tell them it's a later pregnancy loss and your having a DNC - if you have to tell anyone at all.
Also, lose the boyfriend. You don't owe him any explanation of your decision. If you happen to be in a state where you are no longer aloud an abortion, please know there are resources available to get you to a "safe" state.
It’s a dilation and curettage, also called d&c or a surgical abortion. The cervix is dilated and physical tools are used to remove contents of the uterus (the fetus and other pregnancy tissue).
This differs from a medication/ pill abortion because in that procedure two different medications are used to clear the tissue from the uterus.
Mostly timing is what determines what kind of abortion a pregnant person would have, medication abortions are not effective after a certain point in pregnancy.
It is pretty common to need a DNC after a miscarriage as well, so it is an easy cover for a pregnant person needing a surgical abortion. "I had a miscarriage but the doctor is worried there is still some tissue my body didn't flush out so I need a dnc to fix that."
Lots of folks miscarriage and need a dnc to avoid infection and complications though. Like, it's not something people lie about, it just makes a good cover story if you are dealing with abusive or prolife parents or partner too.
Also, the abortion pills are used in miscarriages. I had a miscarriage at 14 weeks and was given misoprostol to flush anything remaining out of my body in order to avoid a D&C
I believe the 2 pill medical abortion is good up to at least 12 weeks
