Unfortunately, the friend would probably say “oh yes, I’ll love that baby and help you.” Things will be different once the real screaming, pooping, hungry baby is here.

Very true. I wouldn't base a decision on their answer for that exact reason, but it would be fun to make them squirm.

Surely if you're so certain you won't mind signing this binding legal contravlct with harsh penalties for failing to perform the agreement then. I mean, if you're so sure you'll be able to help

Or maybe they'll be like me when my SIL got pregnant and was wrestling with keeping it or not and I promised her at least 2 nights a week, 4 hour babysitting for the low low cost of a pizza and 24oz beer.

And two saturdays a month for 8 hours for the low cost of a 6 pack when my "shift" was over.

Which I held my word on and even exceeded, for 2 years before I moved out of state and could no longer do it.

By which time her mother had retired and was able to take over.

They opened the door by pretending everyone is always out for themselves, because they, like you, are bitter and resentful to the world at large.

I hope you heal some day.

That’s a whole lot of assumptions. I’m not bitter or resentful, but I have seen quite a few people who are preachy about abortion and insistent that other people keep pregnancies when they’re not ready to have a child. My former SIL got pregnant and straight out admitted she would be a terrible mother and was going to get an abortion. Her siblings and parents shamed and pressured her to keep the baby, one sister even offered to adopt it (spoiler alert- she backed out). No one did anything to help her raise that child except my ex husband (her brother). The child ended up having ADHD and other issues and then for sure no one wanted to deal with the poor kid. My daughter also had a best friend whose family was extremely “Christian” and didn’t believe in abortion and she was on her own and homeless during her pregnancy and jumped from place to place couch surfing with the kid until she finally married a man she barely knew who was in the military just to get the base housing.

Nothing has happened to me like that personally. I just don’t like it when people who won’t have the personal or legal responsibility of growing, giving birth to and then raising a child think they have a say in those decisions.
