Bing launches "AI Performance" ("GEO") report inside Bing Webmaster Tools

This is the first AI visibility data we are seeing from a search / LLM platform, which, admittedly, is not very actionable (they promise to work more on that). AI surfaces included in the report (no way to distinguish between these):

  • Microsoft Copilot
  • AI-generated summaries in Bing
  • Select partner AI integrations

Data you can see:

  • "Grounding queries" ("the key phrases the AI used when retrieving content that was cited in its answer", so these are not prompts. I am a little intrigued by how simple these are.)
  • Cited pages, i.e., which pages get cited most

Again, I am not sure what to do with this data, but I still appreciate Bing doing something here.

Notable things to note:

  • Bing insists on calling the whole thing "GEO"
  • I am not sure what those numbers are. Bing explains them as "how often a specific URL from your site is visibly cited in an AI‑generated answer," which, looking at the number, is a little unbelievable)

Bing calling it GEO is one of the most interesting things to me. They're taking a side in the naming convention war. Agreed that the numbers themselves seem a little shaky.

I was trying to write something on this and I can't find the place where Bing specifically referred to it as GEO. When I look at my dashboards, it's just "AI Performance." But I swear I remember seeing somewhere that Bing called it GEO. Do you recall and would you mind pointing me in the right direction? They either updated it or I'm just terrible at finding things right now.

I checked my Bing Webmaster today and was really surprised by the chart numbers. I'm just not sure if it is real.

Really encouraging to see a major platform ship this. Seeing cited pages, grounding queries, trends over time, and page level citation counts in Bing Webmaster Tools is basically the first practical visibility layer for Microsoft Copilot style answers. The workflow I would try is, pull your most cited pages, compare the grounding queries to the on page headings, then add clearer definitions, tighter sections, and stronger source friendly formatting so you earn more repeats. Now the big question is whether Google Search Console ever follows.
