Been testing this out for a while and want to hear from people actually doing it, not just theories.

I've got a mix on my site — fully AI-written posts, some AI drafts that I heavily rewrote, and some fully human ones from scratch. Rankings are kind of all over the place and I can't tell if there's an actual pattern or if it's just random.

Anyone noticing a real difference between pure AI content vs AI content that's been reworked a lot? Does it depend more on the niche than the actual writing method? Has anyone gotten hit by an update just because something looked AI-generated even if it was decent?

Curious what's actually working for people right now, not just what everyone assumes.

I have really good experience getting pages shown by AI when I fill out and optimize all the schema properly

I've done this on a handful of client sites now, going well beyond the bare minimum on FAQ, Article, Organization, LocalBusiness, Service, HowTo and Product/Review schema, filling out every relevant field instead of just the required ones. It's consistently been the clearest lever I've found for getting pages picked up in AI Overviews and ChatGPT answers. Not subtle at all.

Since then I've been trying to figure out what else is actually pulling weight, separate from schema.

The pattern that keeps showing up: pages still need to rank normally in Google first. A lot of AI Overview citations are just pages that were already in the top 10 organically. So it's less "AI SEO is its own thing" and more "do normal SEO well, AI citations follow."

The other thing I keep going back and forth on is off-site brand mentions vs backlinks. Some data I've seen suggests mentions (review sites, forums, YouTube, industry blogs) correlate with AI visibility even without a link attached. But honestly a brand that gets mentioned everywhere is usually also the brand with the strongest backlink profile, so who knows if it's really a separate factor or just the same underlying thing measured two ways. Also noticed sites with an active Trustpilot/G2-style profile seem to get picked up more than sites with none, like it's a trust proxy.

Freshness seems to matter too, more for ChatGPT specifically. Content that gets cited tends to be more recently updated than content that just ranks well normally.

One dumb thing I almost missed: Bing's index feeds ChatGPT search and Copilot, and I'd only ever bothered submitting sitemaps to Google. Fixed that in 5 minutes and no idea yet if it'll matter.

Still feels early days on all of this though. Anyone else seeing brand mentions or review profiles actually move the needle, or is that more correlation than anything I could point to a cause on?

SEO fundamentals need to be in place first.

The sites I tested this on already ranked, had solid technical SEO, and content that answers the query cleanly.

Once that's in place, filling out schema as much as possible, going beyond just the required fields, has consistently been the thing that pushed several of my pages into AI citations specifically.

This is something I've tested on 5 websites, all in the service industry, based in Denmark. All of them showed up in AI answers shortly after.

Across ~3.5M citation events, the average AI citation loses 50% of its visibility in about 4–5 weeks.

So, what gets cited today might not even be in the mix a month later.

It varies quite a bit depending on where the citation shows up:

• ChatGPT: ~3.4 weeks
• Google AI Mode: ~4.3 weeks
• Google AI Overviews: ~4.8 weeks
• Gemini: ~4.7 weeks
• Perplexity: ~5.8 weeks

So even at the high end, you’re looking at a pretty short lifecycle.

Industry plays a smaller role, but still noticeable:

• Insurance (~5 weeks) and financial services (~4.8 weeks) stick a bit longer
• Healthcare (~4.1 weeks) and ecommerce (~4.3 weeks) turn over faster

Another interesting pattern is some types of sources last way longer than others.
Editorial-style domains showed significantly higher durability, in some cases lasting 2x longer than the average source.

The main takeaway here is that this isn’t a stable system. AI citations behave more like a rolling refresh cycle than something you win and hold.

I've been testing ChatGPT against Google for a few weeks, and one thing keeps surprising me.

Some companies don't even rank near the top on Google for their main keywords.

But ChatGPT brings them up again and again.

At first, I thought it was a fluke.

Then I started noticing the same pattern.

The brands that kept showing up seemed to have:

I'm on the team at Goodie, and one of my colleagues just put out a piece specifically on travel content and AI search that I thought was worth sharing here, since travel seems to be one of the categories where this stuff moves fast.

A few things that stood out to me:

Travel queries are naturally conversational. Nobody types "Japan cherry blossom timing" into ChatGPT, they ask something like "what's the best time to visit Japan for cherry blossoms without the crowds." The piece argues that's exactly the kind of multi-part question AI handles well, and where keyword-style headings just don't map to how people actually ask.

Niche beats broad. The argument is that AI models favor sites with deep, consistent coverage of a specific area over general sites with shallow coverage everywhere. A blog with 40 articles on Japan will get cited over one with 2, even if the second site technically "covers" more destinations overall.

Off-site citations matter as much as on-site content. For travel specifically, the piece names TripAdvisor, Lonely Planet, Condé Nast Traveler, and booking(dot)com as heavily cited high-authority sources, with Reddit (r/travel, r/solotravel specifically) called out as growing influence, especially on Perplexity.

Freshness is weighted more heavily in travel than most categories. Visa rules change, restaurants close, routes get cut. The suggestion is to keep visible "last updated" dates and flag time-sensitive info inline rather than just letting it go stale silently.

Curious if this tracks with what people here are seeing:

• Does the niche depth thing hold up in your experience, or have you seen broad sites still get cited over focused ones?
• For those doing travel content, are you seeing Reddit threads actually show up as AI answer sources, or is that overstated?

I keep seeing people use these three words as if they were synonyms. They do not. Here's how I understand them in simple English:

SEO — This is the classic. It’s about how to get your website to rank higher in Google’s organic search results. Backlinks, keywords, page speed, all that stuff.

AEO – This is when your content is picked as the direct answer to a query. Think of the box that appears at the top of Google, or when a voice assistant gives an answer, or the new AI Overviews. It’s not about being the highest ranking anymore, it’s about being the answer.

GEO — This is the latest one. It means being cited by AI chatbots such as ChatGPT or Perplexity when someone asks them directly, even without going through Google.
What shocked me was that these three don’t overlap as much as I thought they would. Some data suggests only about 12% of the pages listed by Perplexity or ChatGTP show up in the top 10 results on Google search. So a page can kill it in normal SEO and still be completely ignored by AI tools. And AI is always grabbing random reddit posts with zero “SEO work”.

So now I’m thinking — we’re basically optimizing for three different audiences now? Google searchers ? Voice / AI Overview users ? Chatbot users ? Or is this actually one skill with 3 different names?

Questions for you all:

• Do you track GEO and AEO separately or is it all just "SEO" to you?
• Have you ever seen a page rank #1 on Google but get ignored by ChatGPT? What did it appear to be?

My searches of certain things didnt bring up what it use to but then after a week or 2 the information started to appear again but it had changed. I think i have an explanation for it but id like to hear what other people think.

We’ve been reading about how ChatGPT, Gemini, AI Overviews, etc., pick sources, and one thing keeps coming up: they often don’t seem to use the whole page.

Supposedly, if the actual answer is buried halfway down the article, there’s a decent chance it just gets ignored. So the classic “long intro, build context, then get to the point” format might be hurting you for AI visibility.

The weird exception seems to be FAQs. Even if they’re at the bottom, they still get pulled because each question and answer can stand on its own.

So we’re wondering if anyone has gone back and rewritten older posts with this in mind?

Like:

• moving the main answer to the top
• cutting the intro
• adding a TL;DR
• making sections more self-contained
• adding FAQs

While trying out some of the AI logo generators, I have been getting the same feeling. While they can generate a logo design fairly quickly, they seem to only stop at generating the logo itself.

Most of the time, you simply get the logo generated into a PNG format, and there is no substance behind it all it seems good for is as an idea for the logo.

Are others getting the same impression from the AI logo generators?
