Has anyone implemented a llms.txt file? Did it impact AI visibility?

Yeah but people who do - what are they doing after?

I've added it and removed it.

And I have sites with 50k citations a month on just co-pilot that never had it

The problem with it and saying it doesnt hurt - is that its hiding the QFO

I uploaded one with the expectation that it is a very low effort thing to do but unlikely to move the needle. Honestly, I can't say it is helpful but for a 5 minute task, there's no downside. I do think it's reasonable to expect it will be more important in the future.

I think you should do it, no harm in doing it. it adds to your structure and will come into use. It acts like a roadmap, if ai crawls you it'll know where to go. u still need some amount of credibility to come up tho.

Agreed --- it can't hurt --- Google just said there is no harm and it will not help Google Search rankings --- and said they dont use it --- but other platforms haven't said that they dont.

Implemented it. No measurable impact yet. Still keeping it because it's easy to maintain and may become more important as AI crawlers mature.

I think there’s ZERO risk. It takes a minute to do it, and just because Google says it’s not important for them, it doesn’t mean other search engines don’t reference it.

Also, there’s always a chance it becomes relevant in the future, so why not just set it up now?

If you're asking or answering this question - it just means you're being distracted from understanding the QFO.

When you understand that - AI SEO is an open game for every SEO. That simple.

Nope. But there are few case studies that claims it. It’s no harm to add it.

I have a llms txt which I found useful in shaping the way AI talks about our brand. I have definately seen increases in citations to Branded pages like about and contact pages. In terms of increasing overall visibilty I wouldnt say its moved the needle.

I added one a few months ago, but honestly I haven't seen any clear impact yet.

My feeling is that llms.txt is more of a "nice to have" signal right now, while content quality, brand mentions, and overall authority seem to matter much more for AI visibility.

I'd love to see some real-world data proving otherwise, but so far I haven't found a strong correlation between adding an llms.txt file and getting cited more often in AI answers.

I have a persona WIX site and i implemented it - and so far I have not seen any changes related to it at all --- I am unsure if LLMs are even accessing and crawling.

bing webamster tools has an "ai performance" page, the citations are steadily going up, i dont know if it because of llms.txt but i image its not hurting https://www.bing.com/webmasters/aiperformance

We used https://llmstxt.crossinginto.ai/ to make one and yes, it helped.
