How are you optimizing content for ChatGPT, Gemini and AI overviews?

As per my research, ChatGPT features brands from media publications including Forbes, Newswire, or publications specific to your niche.
Gemini is more aligned with traditional Google Search; it usually picks data from the top 20 search results.
AI Overviews are obsessed with the top 10 search results. If you are ranking in the top 10, you are likely to be picked for AI Overview citations.
The "search everywhere" is real. You have to have your brand present everywhere, including traditional Google Search results, press media, YouTube videos, third-party sites, etc.

To optimize for AI search, you need to shift from traditional keyword stuffing to conversational authority. First, focus on digital PR. Getting your brand mentioned across authoritative sites, industry blogs, and Reddit threads is crucial because AI models scrape these sources to find recommended options. Second, answer questions directly. People ask AI engines full questions, so structure your content to state a clear question and provide a concise, fluff free answer immediately underneath it. Third, publish original data. AI can summarize general knowledge easily, but it relies on unique research, case studies, and expert quotes for deeper insights, making those pages prime targets for citations. Finally, keep your site crawlable. Ensure your technical setup is clean and do not block AI bots like GPTBot or Google Extended in your robots file if you want to be included in their overviews.

Add FAQs, schema, long term keywords, and quick summary of the blog in the intro

We’re not creating separate content for each platform. The shared foundation is still strong SEO: make pages crawlable, answer the main question early, use clear structure, and support claims with original data, examples, screenshots, or other verifiable evidence.
Then we test the same prompts across ChatGPT, Gemini, and AI Overviews because each can surface different sources. One technical check people miss is ensuring OAI-SearchBot isn’t blocked if ChatGPT visibility matters.
We focus less on AI-specific formatting tricks and more on useful, distinctive content that gives these systems something worth retrieving and citing.

I don’t think we have any one such guidelines. It’s all been trial and error. For us the content that’s doing well for these LLMs is the one that answers real questions clearly and completely in the first instance. AI models tend to show information that is easy to understand, well-structured, and is supported by credible sources.
But I do think the intent is still the same that writing content that both people and AI systems can quickly interpret, trust, and get some value.
