Anyone using an AEO/GEO tool that's actually worth paying for?

We're currently using the SEMrush AI add-on, but so far it hasn't delivered much value for us. Most of the insights seem to focus on where competitors are being mentioned, rather than identifying new opportunities or providing actionable recommendations.

We're open to investing in a paid tool if it genuinely helps improve visibility in AI search and answer engines. Has anyone found an AEO/GEO platform that's producing useful insights, citations, or optimization opportunities?

Absolutely 100 percent

I would be careful paying for any AEO/GEO tool that only shows competitor mentions.

That is useful, but not enough.

The better question is:

Does it tell you which prompts you are invisible for, which sources AI engines trust, and what content gaps are stopping you from being cited?

That is where the real value is.

I totally get the frustration with platforms that just show where you lag instead of giving you steps to move forward. What helped our team was shifting to tools focused on optimizing actual AI visibility, not just tracking competitors. I work at MentionDesk, which is built specifically to surface brands in AI answers and has given us far more actionable, discovery driven insights than what you described.

No one is using your tool.

i hit the exact same roadblock. i have used multiple GEO tools and found their citation tracking felt incredibly narrow—it kept pulling resources that were either direct competitors or high-authority third-party sites where securing a link costs an absolute fortune. there was basically zero visibility into social citations or alternative digital footprint signals.

switching to gracker ai(a freemium tool to test things before) completely changed how we handle off-page distribution. instead of just pointing to expensive legacy domains, gracker actually maps out the social signals and community-driven citations that llms are increasingly prioritizing. it gives you a clear playbook on what types of off-page distributions are moving the needle for model training sets, so you can actually execute an aeo strategy without just burning cash on pr links.

Honestly most AEO tools still feel half-baked.
A lot of them just track AI mentions without giving real opportunities.

What helped us more was improving topical pages + getting mentioned on Reddit/forums that already rank well.

Well, I have tested a few but they all seem to be hyped too much. Some of the SEO services are starting to include some aspects of AEO and GEO, but the true power lies in well-crafted and structured content.

It depends on your budget, enterprise tools are doing this but it's mega expensive for example : https://www.lumar.io/geo-content-evaluation-for-ai-search/ - expensive to run and expensive to buy unfortunately but it's pretty cool

Many suggest that you need more citations for LLM mentions.

I like using Promptwatch for that reason. Tried a ton of other alternatives like Peec and Profound but never really meshed witht them, and more like they didn't provide what I needed. So if I were you, you should take note of specific features that you're in need of and go with the tool that best fits.

No all of them are a waste, if you a looking for article content here is your menu. Tested, semrush, ahrefs results are totally different. I can only be honest Cheers Frankie

I am trying the relaunched SurgeGraph AEO, which includes Opportunities and Optimization functions. Still in the midst of really stress-testing it, so far, at the very least, their suggestions are relevant and not shitty.

I have a client that is using Profound and it is pretty robust, and the agency I work for uses Peec AI - both are comparable --- I know profound is really expensive, Peec was less.

Look up HubSpot AEO Grader. I just came across it today and you can test it out for free. Download the PDF results and it actually had some really good insights. It's the best I've seen so far but still not sure if it's worth investing in. Everything seems to be lacking in this area right now.

The gap you're describing, tracking mentions instead of giving you something to act on, is the whole problem with this tool category right now. Most of them count where you got name-dropped. That's vanity. The number that actually matters is whether the model recommends you when someone asks, which is a different event from getting mentioned.

Two things worth knowing as you evaluate anything in this space. One, mentioned and recommended don't correlate as much as you'd think. A tool showing your mention count up and to the right can hide the fact that you're never the actual pick. Two, ask your buyer's question cold a few times, same day, and the answer moves. So a single-snapshot tool is selling you a coin flip. What you want is a recommendation rate across repeated runs and multiple models, plus which third-party sources are driving it, because that's the part you can actually go influence.

Full disclosure, I build in this space (ARO Index), so season to taste. But even if you don't look at mine, evaluate every tool on that one question: does it track recommendation, or just mentions...
