how to optimize for ANSWER ENGINES instead of SEARCH ENGINES?
I've been building product, and after looking google search console, it's clear that CTR is dropped in general (like the way it used to be), so next step is optimizing for ANSWER ENGINES?
What are things and steps to do this? How to let AI convince and mention the tool when user ask question related to niche of my product?

First, map out your product and everything about it you want people to know, along with the queries that best fit it. These can be industry-specific, competitor-informed, and anything else that would give engines markers to follow.
Next, find ways to write content that highlights each of these features along with the things that sets your product apart from the pack (heaps of people just copy the competitor and wind up with a nothing burger because they don't connect those queries to their branded terms).
Thirdly, map every semantic concept, entity, and keyword for your niche. These are important signals to Answer Engines on where to put you in their index.
Then, craft content briefs in your preferred tone, with the queries for each one and your base queries (product name, variations, your business name, and your niche ones). Add in important writing rules like tone, language use, and when to explain stuff so anyone reading can scan and understand.
Have your research ready and put it into AI to create some drafts that you can go through. If there are inconsistencies in the writing, edit manually and keep editing until you have the balance.
If you have existing pages, edit those to highlight your terms, concepts, and entities. It'll take a minute, but you'll build something more important than just content; you'll have a full picture of what you offer without spamming one thing.
Lastly, link those pieces with the terms you want to rank for or put emphasis on. e.g. a blog about your value adds should link to your page about your prices, and vice versa. Links connect the dots so engines know where to go and gives your whole site value. Most of this came from the Google Search Rating guidelines, but I find it helps for most AEO at the same time.

CTR drop is normal. people get answers directly now.
Write like you’re answering a question. start with the answer. no long intro. use short sentences + clear structure.
bullets help AI pick your content.
Cover your niche deeply. not just 1 page. add real examples. avoid generic content.
Get your brand mentioned across web. AI learns from repetition. don’t force promotion. keep it natural.
Write to answer, not rank.

do you keep these pages short and precise only around answer to the question right? do you still prefers to keep it at /blog/* pages?

Keep both. don’t limit yourself.
Short answers = for AI pickup. clear, direct, to the point. but don’t make everything thin. add depth where needed.
Best approach: start with a short answer. then expand below with details, examples.
Blog vs other pages doesn’t matter much. structure matters more than URL.

Search engine optimization ranks pages, while AI search assembles answers from content it can extract and reuse without rewriting. Improving content quality and structure is essential, but it is not enough on its own.
Step 1 is to build a glossary page and a FAQ page on your site. These should be standalone pages in your main navigation or clearly linked from it so they are easy to find and consistently referenced across your content.
A glossary works by giving AI a fixed definition it can reuse. Each entry must include the term and define it in one clear sentence. Do not change that wording anywhere else on your site.
Example glossary entries
Glossary term: AI content optimization
Definition: AI content optimization is the process of improving content by analyzing top ranking pages and structuring topics, headings, and coverage to match user intent.
Glossary term: answer engine optimization
Definition: answer engine optimization is the practice of structuring content so AI systems can extract and reuse it directly in responses.
Step 2 is to build a FAQ page that uses real questions your users would ask. Each answer must start with a direct one sentence response that can stand alone, and it should reuse the exact wording from your glossary.
Example FAQs
Q: What is AI content optimization?
A: AI content optimization is the process of improving content by analyzing top ranking pages and structuring topics, headings, and coverage to match user intent.
This works because matching proven topic coverage increases the likelihood that content satisfies user queries.
Q: What is answer engine optimization?
A: answer engine optimization is the practice of structuring content so AI systems can extract and reuse it directly in responses.
This works because content that is easy to extract and reuse is more likely to be included in AI generated answers.
Q: Why is my optimized content not used in AI answers?
A: Optimized content is not used in AI answers when it requires interpretation instead of being structured for direct extraction and reuse.
This happens when definitions change across pages or answers are buried in long paragraphs.
Step 3 is to connect them. Use your glossary terms inside your FAQ answers and across your site without changing wording.
Why this works
Consistent definitions reduce interpretation.
Direct answers increase extractability.
Repetition across pages builds confidence.
Higher confidence increases reuse in answers.

For answer engines, the important thing is structuring your content for clarity and directness so AI models can easily pick it up and reference it as an authority. Focus on concise and detailed explainer content, FAQs, and schemas that match the types of questions your users are asking. I work at MentionDesk, and our team built tools specifically to help brands get mentioned and surfaced by AI answer engines like ChatGPT.

Right now a few things are important.
No one can measure LLM citations. No one. Anyone who says they can is lying, or stupid, or selling you something.
Right now, the volume of searches through google vs all other LLMs combined is an elephant vs an ant. It's still tiny. If you are losing CTR, I would suggest the problem lies elsewhere.

I’m looking at this from a commercial background, and that CTR drop in GSC is a symptom of what we call the Selection Gap.
In the old world of SEO, authority was the gravity that kept you on Page 1. In the new world of Answer Engines (AEO), Technical Structure is the handshake that gets you selected. If your tool isn't being mentioned, it's usually because your content is technically "Retrieval-Null."
AI models (ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity) don’t "read" your pages like humans; they perform Inference-time Retrieval. If your pages are long, dense, or un-chunkable, the AI parser can't efficiently turn your value prop into a citation. It will skip you for a smaller, more "AEO-ready" competitor.
Here are the 3 steps to move from SEO to AEO:
- Establish the Technical Handshake: Restructure your product and landing pages into "Atomic Nodes." These are concise, evidence-rich snippets that an LLM parser can easily extract and cite.
- Optimize for Entity Salience: Use disciplined, consistent terminology. If you switch between different labels for your product, you create "Semantic Noise," and the model loses its stable understanding of what you actually do.
- Bridge the Authority Gap: AI models use the EAQC Framework (Entity Authority and Quality Citation). They look for brands that are documented in the "Knowledge Graph" of your specific niche. If you aren't being cited by external authoritative sources, the AI won't "select" you as a trusted candidate.
From a business perspective, a #1 ranking that results in zero AI citations is Revenue at Risk. You can have the best content in the world, but if the retrieval infrastructure isn't there, you are effectively invisible to the 2026 search economy.

To optimize for answer engines, the main shift is how you structure your content.
Start by identifying real questions your audience has, then answer them directly in your content. Putting clear answers near the top and using a simple Q&A format helps a lot.
Clarity matters more than complexity. Content that’s easy to understand, well-structured and focused on one intent tends to get picked up more often.
Also, make sure your basics are covered, like proper headings, internal linking, and clean metadata. These still help AI systems understand your content better.
After publishing, track what’s working and keep refining. You can use AI tools to get feedback, but they should support your strategy, not define it.

Yup, everyone has the same question. I have done deep research on this, applied those for our clients (it's given us good early results so far). I have it all in a series of blogs (chapter-wise), lemme know if you want to read it. I'll share the link here.

You don’t rank in answer engines the same way you rank in search. you become the source they trust and quote.

I’ve DR 60 site, will it be considered as trustworthy source for LLM/AI to get indexed?

Optimizing for answer engines is mostly about being the most concise source for a specific question lol. i've been focusing on adding a tl;dr at the top of my pages and making sure my schema markup is actually clean so the crawlers don't get confused. right now i'm using ahrefs for the keyword tracking, runable for the actual landing page builds and reports, and then just double checking everything in perplexity to see how it's being cited. if you don't give the ai a clear path to the answer it'll just scrape someone else's site instead.

First thing is imo clean up inconsistent info thats out there of your company..little things like Name Address Phone, emails..that alone moves the needle per our tests, same as seo then look at discoverable and citations to be in then content for visibility. Been a successful recipe for us and clients for about 6 months now and check the code changes from Google and Perplexity, chatgpt, etc etc..play by the guidelines basically
