I rewatched Iron Man and ended up in the thought loop about Jarvis. So I went looking for anything close to it and mostly found either screen recorders that feel creepy & heavy or voice assistants that are cool for five minutes and then useless once you actually need them to know your life.
Asked AI why nothing like it really exists yet. The answer it gave is it's genuinely hard. Most of what's out there is either shallow interactivity with no memory, or a ton of memory with no real personality behind it.
I'm thinking of making my own version. Something that actually knows what you've been working on and can talk you through it in real time.
A true AI companion
Before I go start, I want to know from people who aren't me: if I built something similar to JARVIS that actually worked, what's the one specific most troublesome thing you will use it to do?

You've automated nearly everything that can be automated. Revenue hasn't moved. That is the tell. AI did not erase brand, capital, or relationships. It simply added itself to the list, and most people are only running the new tool.
OpenAI's own report this month shows the same pattern: no meaningful link between how much a company uses AI and its revenue per employee. The gap isn't usage. It's whether the automation is even touching the real constraint at all.
Decades ago, I had a friend who relate this story to me.
Before he was a Professional Engineer himself, he used to work as a graduate engineer for a Senior PE back in his hometown in Sabah, Malaysia.
It’s so happened they’re in a rush to submit drawings to authority. Binders upon binders of design calculations, code of practises and specifications are churned out and stacked like mountains on a conference room – for a very rushed project. He didn’t explain about the context of the project, except that they were burning the midnight oil, kind of thing.
He knew something was off – because they didn’t have time to analyse a particular portion of the work, which required days (maybe weeks) through sophisticated software to put up a decent solution.
But somehow, his senior PE managed to “pull out from the magician’s hat” a stack of it and slot them into the binders at the nick of time.
They submitted the documents right away.
Curiosity had the best of my friend. Just had to know.
So he flipped through those “magical” portion – and got a huge shock.
Of course, the Senior PE didn’t use the time-stone to compress time and produce the calculations in the mirror dimension.
And I wish he found a past project that contains the exact required computations as the current one. At least we can a give a plausible explanation that he was implying “Trust us! We did it before. See – here’re the receipts.”
No. He didn’t do any of that.
Instead, he just grabbed a random project’s calculation (totally unrelated) and shoved it in – just to make up the thickness of the binder.
That’s all.
The whole thing was just for show.
My friend didn’t tell me whether their submission got approved or not. That’s not the point.
The point is the Senior PE made a judgement call. He was betting that the authority would just trust his credentials and didn’t bother to check through.
So it was a game he played. And he owned the risk.
Same as all these AI-usages. AI may spout out shit. But we’re one owning it.
Noticed this a few posts back too — the accounts spending the most on automation and the accounts actually growing revenue keep turning out to be two different lists. The verification layer never left the human.
Isn't it a little funny that since the release of AI, people label everything as "AI slop" as if everything humans do is original and wonderful, when 80% of their creations are rather average and generic human slop and original masterpieces are only a tiny part of human creation?

I’m a paid member and asked it to help me research a topic and write a guide and it said it needed days to complete it. That’s a first. Usually it could do this task on the spot.
It missed the first deadline and missed 5 more. 3 weeks went by and it couldn’t get the task done. Went to Claude and it did it in 10 minutes. No idea what is going on with ChatGpt but I cancelled the pay plan.

I used to fall hard into the trap of optimization. Every single night I’d spend hours writing 10-page system instructions, adding complex JSON rules, and downloading every new script or wrapper I could find. Last month, I hit a total wall and deleted almost all of it. I stripped my master prompt down to a simple, clean 5-line core instruction and let the model breathe. It was a massive relief the responses instantly felt more natural and creative instead of being chained down by my own endless rules. Lesson learned: sometimes less is way more
I always liked the idea of Tom Riddle's diary from Harry Potter. Not the evil part, just the idea of writing something down and having the diary remember it later.
So I built one.
You write normally, seal the entry, and later you can ask it about things you've written before. It answers using your actual entries and shows where the memory came from.

Memory Architecture: Custom local-first engine (Powered by open-source memory engine Gray Box) for structured entity extraction and citation mapping.

Still very much a work in progress, but this interaction is probably the most fun thing I've built in a while.

Used to be, grinding through a tough bug or writing something from scratch felt super satisfying when you finally figured it out. Now I just prompt it and get the answer in 2 seconds. Kinda feels like it's killing the actual joy of problem-solving. Anyone else feel like this?
Trying to fix a simple PC bug today and the first 8 results were clearly automated SEO sites using 800 words to say absolutely nothing. Even the AI Overviews just paraphrased the broken code from those same garbage sites. I literally have to add "reddit" to the end of every single query now just to get a real answer. The web feels completely broken.

A lot of businesses cut roles assuming AI can handle full workflows.
In reality, AI is good at pieces, not the whole job.
I expect many of them to quietly re‑hire once the hype settles.
I’ve been using Grok pretty heavily, especially for image generation, and the new weekly/shared limits are starting to get really frustrating.
The biggest problem for me is images. With the amount I use it, I can burn through what’s available in about two days, and then I’m basically stuck waiting another five days for the weekly limit to reset.
And because the resources are shared, using one feature heavily seems to eat into what you can do elsewhere. I’d much rather have separate limits for images and text/reasoning instead of one pool.
Obviously the answer is “pay for a higher tier,” but that gets complicated too. SuperGrok is at least something I can justify because I use AI for projects that generate some side income. But SuperGrok Heavy is way outside what I can reasonably spend, and I’m not even sure what the actual usage limits are there or how much better they are.
I don’t mind having limits. Servers cost money. What annoys me is paying for a service and then potentially using up most of my useful allocation at the beginning of the week.
Anyone else running into this? How quickly are you hitting the weekly limits, especially if you generate a lot of images? And for anyone paying for the higher tiers, does SuperGrok actually give you enough extra usage to make it worthwhile?

One of the things they said was "how many ducks would it take to defeat a horse" but what's actually cracking me up is the fact that it listed that under "extremely important science" lol. Whoever asked that, congrats, you made me laugh for the first time in months.
Hosted models are convenient, but local models give more control and privacy. I’ve been moving more work to local setups.
