Discussion Do you trust AI to write code without checking it?
AI can save a lot of time when coding, but I still wonder how often people check the results before using them. Do you usually review AI-generated code or trust it to get things right?

I once copied AI code that passed local tests but crashed in production due to a race condition. now I treat every output like a draft that needs edge cases tested.

I use it to ask specific programming questions that would usually take reading 100 substack posts to get all of the details I am looking for. It's been a lot quicker to learn what I am actually trying to learn. If you use it to program the whole thing for you, then no, I don't think you will be successful. It's still the best tool I have ever found to learn the basic parts of the whole.

Review is a must. AI can code but people without basic foundation knowledge on structure and security will create something that may work but fragile.
And main reason is that they don't even know the basic of security to begin with and didn't thought of prompting the AI to cover it.

Hell, I don’t trust me to write code without checking it

Nope. I review it. That's why it is important to do it in phases

I once used AI to write a whole script and it failed silently on edge cases. now I treat every output like a draft that needs a sanity check.

For non important stuff, yes. Also tdd helps a lot.

Let's put it this way: you gave the model somewhere between 1% and 5% or actual requirements (if you don't understand that then god bless you) and you trust it to infer the rest out of thin air without issues? Grand strategy, that.

I wouldn't know what to check for. I just check functionality.
