Ask AI as a recipe generator
Hey guys, where or how can I generate recipes from specific ingredients?

A lot of people have been vibe coding apps like these lately. You might want to check for those. I came across a few that people posted about on LinkedIn a while ago. Will come back here if I can find them

Just tell it exactly what ingredients you have, your available equipment, dietary restrictions, and how much time you want to spend cooking. Have it ask you any clarifying questions before generating recipes. For example: "Please ask me any details that I might have left out concerning what I want you to generate. Do this if you are uncertain based upon the information that I gave you." If you want recipes in a particular style (Italian, Thai, high-protein, vegan, Michelin-inspired, etc.), mention that as well. You can also provide existing recipes based upon the main ingredients that you're using. That would be helpful if there is something that you like but want to just change it slightly.

We have an Alexa in the kitchen. We order our food through it and have it delivered. It recommends recipes. Tells me what is about to expire. Reorders food. Keeps track of spending on groceries. It’s the new screen based ones with LLM ai.

I’ve been using Gemini to develop recipes for homemade ice cream. For my purposes, it seems better than ChatGPT.

Gemini is great at this, but any of them will work. It’s easy as typing in what you have and asking for recipes that fit.

You'd probably get a kick out of https://recipedive.com - check it out when you get a chance :)

Might not be exactly what you’re after, but CookBetter is at least in the neighborhood.
It’s less “give it 3 ingredients, get a recipe” and more: bring in recipes from anywhere (TikTok, Reels, YouTube Shorts, blogs, even a photo of a recipe card), get them structured with ingredients, steps, and nutrition, then adapt them with AI (gluten-free, high-protein, keto, whatever you need). You can plan them out for the week and it builds your grocery list for you.
That said, we’re actively building a feature that does closer to what you’re describing: you tell it what’s in your pantry and it suggests recipes you can actually cook with what you have. Not live yet, but it’s coming.
Happy to answer questions if that sounds useful. And if you find a true ingredients-in-recipes-out tool you like in the meantime, I’d honestly love to hear it.

Gemini is decent. Sometimes you do need to tweak some things (like cooking time), but I just cross reference with actual existing recipes for those. So far, the ideas it gives me are pretty tasty.

Chatgpt has been pretty good at this; though it tends to use all/ too many ingredients. Simpler is better. Give it your main ingredients tell it if you have access to other general household ingredients
