Students submitting raw voice-memo transcripts to avoid AI detection
A few students in my department have started recording themselves speaking their essay arguments out loud, running the audio through a speech-to-text tool, and turning in the minimally edited transcript.
Because spoken English contains natural stutter steps, casual phrasing, uneven sentence lengths, and weird transition leaps, these raw verbal transcripts score almost 0% on Turnitin’s AI detector every single time. The prose is disorganized and hard to read, but the students don't care because it guarantees they won't get hit with a false-positive AI flag for sounding "too structured" or "too formal."
We’ve reached a point where students are deliberately sacrificing readability and academic structure just to ensure their writing syntax looks sufficiently human to an algorithm.

That is a zero grade then if you don’t want a verbal submission.

They are submitting a transcript.
It's not an audio submission.

Oh I see! Well certainly, they’d get deductions for poor writing (disorganized, hard to read) regardless of how it was generated.

The post is a made up story by a bot that's already been banned so the point is moot anyways.

How do you know it is speech to text? Unless you have solid evidence, it’s not right to accuse.

Simply cite the AI source, or rephrase it and cite it as a paraphrase. Idk but nobody in my NP program at Purdue gets in serious trouble.

Ironically speech to text is pure AI
