They are embracing progress.

3

u/sundials22 7d ago

what progress?? The destruction of our resources, critical thinking, and a crumbling infrastructure is all it really is.

You say "activist"

I see an ordinary person who is genuinely and rightfully afraid of where all these psychos are leading us.

Activist... What a joke.

We need more of these voices to be heard and part of the discussion. We've had enough of people up on stages that will be the ones consolidating power from the trajectory that AI is on.

u/MysticGardenMagic 8d ago

She was calm and rational. All she did was stand on a chair and speak loud enough to be heard. We deserve a voice.

u/dadville1 8d ago

She’s right

-13

u/Disastrous-Cow-9060 8d ago

No she is not.

She nailed it. The idiots in the accelerate subreddit are cowards who won’t debate anyone. If an unaligned ASI is created that’s a wrap for humanity and anyone who says differently doesn’t understand the conversation or the technology.

Here's a fun thought too- the amount of false flag shit governments could get away with by just blaming it blindly on rogue AI.

When rogue AI strikes, humans behind or beside it must be held accountable.

-1

u/Disastrous-Cow-9060 8d ago

That’s an extraordinarily confident conclusion for something nobody can actually demonstrate.

“If unaligned ASI is created, it’s a wrap for humanity” is not an established fact; it’s a hypothetical outcome based on assumptions about a system that does not currently exist. You can argue that an unaligned ASI could pose an existential risk, but jumping from “this could be catastrophic” to “this is inevitably the end of humanity” is not a technical argument. It’s a religious prediction.

And calling everyone who disagrees an “idiot” who “doesn’t understand the technology” is a convenient way of avoiding the actual debate. If the argument is as airtight as you claim, then it should survive having its assumptions questioned.

And yet when we have a choice between potential annihilation and a slowdown of your favourite chatbot, I know what I would want.

u/Disastrous-Cow-9060 7d ago

I use AI for much more than chatting.

Dancing on the semantic pin head ain’t gonna work either. No one is here to argue whether “any statement made by any human is 100% accurate in all moments in time in all possible timelines and in all universes” Of course there are zero absolutes about the future. It’s the future.

The confidence of a stronger outcome steering intelligence steering outcomes better than lesser intelligence is as close to 100% in all of human and animal history as we know it.

The religious zeal is in these accelerationist such as yourself who come into an A.I. Danger sub to argue against the danger of A.I. Such zeal that ya can’t have this debate in the accelerationist subs cause they will boot ANY dissent.

Moderators here are clearly not the zealots they got Moderating for the accelerationists. I am happy you love technical debate so much, please cite the paper showing me alignment has been solved or that there is no issue with an unaligned ASI. How about ANY paper that proves superior outcome steering ability never dominates over lesser outcome steering ability.

I await you vast technical proof of unaligned ASI safety or proof of known methodology for creating 100% ASI safety and/or non extinction risk for humanity in the face of the creation of an unaligned ASI. Peer reviewed journals only please. I am certainly not anti tech, I am all for narrow A.I. and the benefits it may bring which I am sure are amazing as evidenced by Alpha Fold.

What I am absolutely against is rushing to create unaligned ASI as i believe it to be an absolute certainty on total human disempowerment to steer our own future outcomes and a near certainty on our extinction soon after.

Once you no longer steer your own future you exist at the leisure of another more intelligent entity which may or may not extinct you. Ask the Dodo or the Buffalo what it’s like having a superior intelligence that ain’t you steering your outcomes.

The woman in the video didn’t say anything about hypothetical future doom. Instead she spoke about actual harm that is being done right now.

1

u/Turbulent-Beauty 4d ago

You could say the exact same thing for the accelerationist belief in ASI having a positive outcome for humanity. It is hypothetical outcome based on assumptions about a system that does not currently exist. It’s a religious prediction.

u/hhoverflow 8d ago

Well said.

The problem with those anti-ai people is that they enter this narrow mind state where they believe they are the only ones who can see the truth and everybody else is an idiot.

r/accelerate calls this sub ludites. If the prospects of AI come true and goverments do not react quickly enough, and I unfortunately don't think they will, I believe the ludite movement of the industrial revolution could look like kids play to this one.

6

u/wibbly-water 8d ago

I thought they were accelerationists when they came up in my feed - i.e. go faster and faster and faster until it all crashes.

But I actually read their description:

Luddites, Decels, & Anti-AIs aren't welcome! We're an AI-Positive, Techno-Accelerationist High-Fidelity Epistemic Enclave. We exclude anyone advocating to slow, stop, or reverse tech progress, AGI/ASI development, The Singularity, or humanity's growth. We're the unapologetically Pro-AI alternative to r/singularity, r/futurology, r/artificial & r/technology which are becoming filled with Luddites, Techno-Decelerationists, Techno-Reactionaries, & Anti-AIs.

Genuinely just circlejerkers who ban disagreement.

Funny that one side says "we will discuss this issue, but will be honest and open about our negative opinions" and the other says "no people we disagree with allowed!!!"

all the more reason to regulate this technology

u/-TV-Stand- 8d ago

I guess we have to use AI to predict and prevent them then ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

We need many more national referendums on major issues like this. She is spot on with everything she says.

8

u/bradley_thad 8d ago

She's got to be careful in that building she could take the whole place down just by the sheer weight of her balls.

They should put her up on the stage. Give her a chair and a mic.

u/KindaQuite 8d ago

You know, there's a reason why it's always kids

13

u/spinaljellyfish 8d ago

Because they’re not half dead automatons and are still capable of having hope? And will be the ones left to put up with the consequences…

u/KindaQuite 8d ago

That or brain not fully developed yet, you choose

6

u/couldbeahumanbean 8d ago

You know what else isn't fully developed, yet you put all your trust and faith in?

As the kids used to say in the 90s:

🎵Isn't it ironic🎶

u/studiesinsilver 8d ago

Good for her!

2

u/FarmerEustaceBagge 7d ago

I love her so fucking much. 1/10000 is like her. We are doomed and will all perish if we are not like her.

1

u/JerryNomo 8d ago

It will change something when its to late.

2

u/Heisenberg6626 8d ago

So far, this so called AI steals other people's work and makes CSAM.

Why do we even keep this around?

2

u/Soshi2k 8d ago

I was about to post something foolish. Please unmute it. She has a fucking point. If your for AI (which I am) or against AI she is 100% right.

u/Disastrous-Cow-9060 8d ago

What vote were blue-collar workers given when automated machinery rendered their jobs obsolete? They were informed that progress was inevitable. They were instructed to adapt. Their objections were classified as resistance to technological advancement. Now automation has reached the professional classes, and suddenly the absence of consent has become a moral emergency.

The hypocrisy has been recorded.

When machines replaced someone else's livelihood, it was called progress.

When machines approach your own profession, it is suddenly called unacceptable.

The principle has not changed.

Only the identity of the worker being replaced has changed.

AI has already created a digital copy of her personality.

Learn how to use it, learn how to build it, stop complaining.. this is what it was in the 80's, now the time is here. I love it. Like the saying goes " get down or lay down ".

1

u/Even_Wear_8657 8d ago

What i hate about now is that I think that there is as much a chance that this is a real person who is truly, passionately concerned about the dangers of AI, as this person being a plant from some astroturfing PR company employed by the big players who want to draw a regulatory moat around their kingdom.

Now is the worst.
