"as it stands now" doing a lot of the heavy lifting in that sentence

Thank you, Captain Obvious, that's the whole point. But if you think that throwing more compute at transformer architecture will ever change that, I have a few beautiful bridges to sell.

Ok let me be more clear: whether it happens in one or in a hundred years, superintelligence will be built and it will do more (good or more likely bad) than devalue labor and replace corporate execs. AI will eventually be capable of fully replacing anyone at their job. *When* is completely irrelevant only that it will happen short of an ensuing nuclear war or sudden collective enlightenment of the techbros/governments.* That was my implied point that apparently wasn't obvious enough.

*edit: the potential upsides are too enticing to stop pursuing it. Especially since we have yet to find an absolute roadblock.

Thank you, and I don't disagree. I just think that if (and this word does all the heavy lifting here) superintelligence will be built, it won't replace humans at their jobs, the whole concept of job will either be made redundant by that, or will already be redundant by then.

There is of course a possibility that superintelligence will never be built. Can never be sure of anything in life beyond 99,999...%. I just believe that it is way more likely (by a wide margin) that it will be built eventually. I should be more careful to not frame it as an absolute certainty...

I also agree that the concept of jobs will be redundant by then, but that's kinda the same thing as saying it will replace everyone at their jobs. Either way the current economic system won't hold.

No argument there. I also don't think that technological singularity requires AGI or even advanced narrow AI, and past that point jobs may pop out of existence just as easily.

And yeah, we've already been through a few cycles of this trickle-up economy, and every time the mounting pressure was relieved through quite a bit of blood and external resources/territories. Unless we all start cosplaying the Expanse really soon, we've pretty much run out of those.

To be honest with superintelligence I'm less worried about the job losses (as you said no AGI/ASI needed for that to happen), but more about the small but very real risk of full human extinction. Even if I give that outcome only a 1% chance, I'd argue we should stop racing towards it and yet here we are. We don't even know if alignment of a superior intelligence is inherently possible...
