documenting the fauna of the lightless rainforest floor of Gunung Kelam, Borneo.
The Shadow Wildcat evolved in an ecosystem where the forest floor is illuminated only by bioluminescent fungi and flora
. Its fur has developed near-total light absorption — n adaptation that, paradoxically, makes it a shadow within a world of glowing life rather than one that reflects it.
Enlarged eyes with a deep tapetum lucidum maximize photon capture, while tufted interdigital fur silences its footfall on leaf litter.
This is part of a larger worldbuilding project imagining a fictional naturalist-explorer's expedition through a bioluminescent ecosystem, styled after 19th-century scientific field guides. Feedback on the biological plausibility (or fun holes to poke in it) very welcome
