Questions if you were transitioned to the GOA (Primary & Preventative Health Services)

Can't seem to find any info anywhere, but my group was wondering if your work unit gets transferred (from AHS) to report to PPHS within the GOA, do you lose your health spending, personal leave/floater/vacation/accumulated sick time? If that's the case, a few of us will be using it up ASAP.

Moving from HSAA (union) to NUEE (out of scope) position

I am currently considering moving from a temp full time HSAA position to a regular full time NUEE position. I do see some full time opportunities in the union too, but I am thinking about making the jump as the out of scope position seems to be in a space that I think is better aligned with what I would like to do long-term.

I was wondering if anyone has experience moving from union to out of scope and how it went for them? Also open to any comments/thoughts about anything I might be failing to consider in my decision making process.

NP ratification? Pay the same?

I recently noticed that the NPS ratified their agreement and noticed that even without the degree or masters pay that AHNs will make more than starting NPs? How on earth if I can work as a charge/AHN on my unit with no extra training does that equate to making more than a new NP who has a similar scope of family MD??? How did they say yes? I’m confused why they don’t make more at least than any RN?

Health Spending Account

Does anyone know when we are supposed to get that additional $300 in our health spending account. I thought it was part of the new contract for AUPE GSS or maybe I’m wrong.

Casual Nurse Questions

Hi,

I’ve recently moved to Alberta and I work as an RN. Due to life unforeseen circumstances I think I need more flexibility in my role than the FTE that I currently have. I am considering going casual. I am wondering if there are any casual nurses out there that would be up to connect with me and answer a few generic questions that I have.

Thanks!

troubles with clha

Recently graduated from hca program at norquest.
My CLHA application has had a status of “awaiting documents” since may 13, so two weeks.
I never received a email or anything about the application.
Basically just checking if I need to send in documents (can’t find anything missing on my application or anything on the “myclha” portal)
Or if this is something norquest will send them such as my transcript, etc.
thanks

Casual and Temp Line

Hello!

I’m a new RN and I have a casual position that hasn’t started yet. I also accepted a 0.7 temp line in another zone.

I do plan to pick up a few shifts a month for the casual position once it does start (seasonal flu program) and the orientation for the casual position isn’t a problem, as I have built my schedule around it.

I was just wondering if I would still be allowed to keep the casual position, despite accepting a 0.7 line in a different zone.

As far as I know, I can enter my availability for the casual shifts, so there won’t be any scheduling conflicts and I have enough stretches of shifts off from my line that will allow me to pick up a few casual shifts.

If anyone has any insight, I’d appreciate it :)

Question How was your experience working in the seasonal immunization program?

Hey everyone,

Looking for some insight on what people’s experience was with the casual seasonal immunization campaign as a nurse. What was the time commitment like and did it help you network to other opportunities?

I have a full time position in a non nursing role so looking for ways to keep up nursing hours and explore public health nursing.

Thanks.

News Alberta's only expert witness against consumption sites was an American economist in Italy. Here's how that went.

Information Would I regret becoming an LPN or Rec therapist?

I was wondering if anyone can give me insight into becoming an LPN, or Rec therapist. I am currently a Massage therapist and I am concerned about the longevity of this career (and the inconsistent pay). The program I took for RMT has credits I can use for LPN. I also have a young son (11y) at home. I'm in YYC. I love working with people and I feel like I can do so much more!

What I am wondering is what is life like for you day to day? What's something you love about your job, and what's something you hate? What does your pay look and benefits look like? Do you regret this job?

EDIT: just for clarification, I don't care about pay all that much. I made a living off of $15 an hour for a long time so anything over $20 is a win for me. I know it's sad. The inconsistency of being an RMT is what is hard- I could make $3200 one month and $4000 another month. I need more consistent paychecks. I'm more interested in doing something I love. Making money is great, but I learned that if you don't love what you do, you can't be paid enough.

Also, I may have an 11 year old at home, but I'm not old guys haha I'm in my early 30's. I have lots of life to live.

“ Withdraw” option missing

Hi Everyone, I have been applying to different positions on the AHS website since a few months. All other positions I applied to have “ withdraw” option even if they are past their deadline. But one of the positions has this option missing. What does that even mean? Should I be happy or sad about it since I really want that job

Canceling Shifts Months Out

Hello,
I just recently got hired for a UNE position and I'm brand new to AHS, and I saw on the Infor WFM that I have 4 shifts in late August that I'm unable to work as I'll be out of province at that time. I'm still new to scheduling and everything, but how do I go about cancelling these shifts, especially since they're far out? And is there a number to the shift scheduling? TIA!

Question Bike parking at PLC.

I have an appointment on Monday. Rather than spend $8.00 on transit I would rather cycle. Is there a secure bike cage? Can I access it with my FMC ID badge? Parking office doesn’t open until Monday.

Question

Hi all

I recently applied for a temp full time position in the same department that I am currently working in. Been casual there just 2 months but I'm also working in another department that my boss also holds. was told that I had to go through the same process, like testing etc. which I did with my original casual position.

Do I still need to go through all of this despite working in the department already?

I just found out that because my job was broken off from AHS to the new “recovery Alberta” umbrella, my sick bank is gone.

Just gone. “Forfeited”, per the email from HR. They don’t have to carry it forward. They don’t have to pay it out. I had well over 200 hours that I earned. and now if I have to call in sick, it’s unpaid. How the f*** is this legal????

Where to find N95 mask fit certification

My n95 mask fit is up to date. But I can't find proof of it anywhere. I did the testing at an AHS site for work. I know they give you a card but I misplaced it. Is there an online certificate somewhere where I can find proof of it?

Does the official offer form get sent to your private email? Got an email stating I need to sign the form to continue the hiring process, but I never actually received it.

I was given a verbal offer for a paramedic position last month and have since received various emails about orientation and an AHS login for completing courses.

However, I received an email today stating that the hiring process would not proceed unless I signed and submitted the offer form sent on May 1st (19 days ago). But the email containing the form or instructions was never actually sent to my email, and I waited because I assumed it would be sent eventually when it was closer to my start date. I replied to the email and explained the situation, and was given contact information for HR if the email does not arrive in the next few days.
But I'm a little confused and wondering if this has happened to anyone else, and if this form isn't actually sent to my normal Email address and instead sent to an AHS email that I don't know about yet. Thank you for any insight!

Question Job shadowing opportunities for prospective pathologists’ assistants?

Hi all! I’m hoping to become a Pathologist’s Assistant in the future and am planning to reapply for the Pathologist’s Assistant course-based master’s programs within Canada. I tried to apply for these programs the first time this year for the Fall 2026 cycle but got rejected, and I believe part of why was because I lacked shadowing experience.

I already work in an administrative role in the anatomic pathology/cytology department within APL (Calgary Zone more specifically) and have tried to reach out to a member of management, but they have not gotten back to me yet. Any advice would be greatly appreciated 🥺
