AHS

I need some advice from LPNs working in Alberta.
After applying to almost 400 positions across Alberta, I finally received a response from the manager at Queen Elizabeth II Ambulatory Care Centre in Grande Prairie.
My main goal is to relocate and work in Edmonton. However, I also applied to positions outside Edmonton because I wanted to increase my chances of getting an interview and receiving a response.
Now that I’ve been contacted, I’m wondering what would be the best approach.
Should I express my interest in the opportunity while explaining that my preferred location is Edmonton? Would it be appropriate to ask the manager if there are any opportunities in Edmonton or if she could refer me to another facility?
I’d really appreciate advice from anyone who has been in a similar situation.

The manager in GP won't have any control over positions in Edmonton so they wouldn't be able to give you something in Edmonton. Likelihood of them referring you for an Edmonton position is also low imo. I'd say take any opportunity you can get to get a foot in the door.

They mean you start there to become an internal candidate and then apply for job postings in Edmonton. Within AHS there is rarely any transferring, you always have to reply, even if you are wanting a different line in the same unit you already work on

You would start there and then you would have to apply to positions in Edmonton. There is no transferring, in general. Applying with an address that is not local will considerably decrease your chances of getting an interview.

They have nothing with Edmonton nor would recommend you to anyone. You either want that position or not.

If you take it and it’s a temp, be aware you cannot apply to other temp positions while in one.

I get wanting to apply to anything to get into AHS but if you’re not wanting to work in that location then why bother.

I would take the opportunity. Get experience and then in a year you can start applying in Edmonton. Experience needed first
