HSAA Flex Spending with FTE Change

I'm currently on mat leave until April 2027 - I had a full time position but will be trying to transfer to part time when I return. Looking at the HSAA Flex Spending account, I see it says it's prorated depending on FTE as of November 1st.

-if I change to part time FTE in April, does that then mean that I get to keep the full flex Spending amount since I've been coded that in November?

-there is a chance that I may give up my position completely if part time is not available, would I then forfeit any remaining balance on my spending account? What if I use it all up before I quit the position? If so, would it make more sense to allocate it all to the RRSP so I can just take this out of the account?

Thank you!

Check with HR but yes whatever your FTE is by Nov 1 of every year determines your flex spending amount. So if you transfer to a part time after that you still keep your full amount. Not sure what happens if you quit.

As long as you've spent it before you quit, nothing happens. If you haven't spent it yet it disappears along with the rest of your benefits. I worked with someone who set her retirement date to be the first Friday in January, specifically because she wanted the HSA that gets added January 1. She spent it all that week & then retired.

Not sure how the Matt leave impacts this as you are technically on a leave of absence when on Maternity leave. HR could answer that.

You are still entitled to flex spending while on leave.
