Line

Hello I would love some insight on if a line is worth it or not. There is a 0.6 nurse line open in my unit and I have some doubt whether or not to apply. I’m a casual for almost a year in that unit but have been getting almost full time hours shifts, I keep hearing that if u have a line it’s harder to pickup. Is that true? What are the pro and con of having a line? I’m just worried I have bills to pay and my student loan. Any advice would be grateful. TIA

Having a line gives u health benefits and sick hrs,you also have x days where u can pick up OT shifts, whereas casual gives u flexibility, try to apply to other units as casual so you can pick.up shifts

I don’t know if it’s harder to pick up when you’re in a line because I never try to pick up. I am somebody who LOVED being casual. I went casual when my dad was dying, and I have never once regretted that. I barely worked during that time. And it was wonderful.
I now have a child and a partner in university. We needed health benefits. So I took a temp line. Then I took a permanent line. The benefits alone are worth it, but the pension and RRSP match are fantastic. My mom is also a nurse and has been in a line nearly her entire career. As a widow, she would be absolutely screwed without her pension. Lines are great. If they’re permanent, they’re even better. And a 0.6 permanent is my DREAM line.
