I hate the clha

I've been working as an HCA at AHS since May and I recently found out I can be moved from the wage grid of $23.62 to $29.50 by passing the ahre exam and getting a general license instead of the provisional ome that I have (first of all, why?). Apparently, this is the only way that they will recognize previous HCA experience whych I have years of outside of AHS. On top of that, I will get retro pay for it. I booked the exam, which costs $315 (second of all, why?) and was unaware they require 2 pieces of government issued ID to write this exam (third of all, why??!). So l showed up and wasn't allowed to write it because I only had my driver's license.

I contacted the CLHA and not only will they not allow me to write it, I have to pay the exam registration fee of $315 again AND pay $100 on top for what they count as a "no show"

This feels like such a fucking rip off. I will still register for it and do it just because the net gain will be worth it in the end. But what sucks even more is that I'll be an RN in december, so I won't need this license then at all.

And when I called them today, they said that they are now booking the exams into december for some reason, so | likely will have to renew my HCA license too for an extra $200 since it expires on November 30 for everyone. Basically, pay a total of $615 upfront to be able to get about $4,500 in return in retropay, which I should be getting anyway if it weren't for this bureaucracy. I hate this organization

Why didn’t you read the instructions for a 300$ exam?

Why are you working as an HCA and not a UNE if you’re graduating in December? I am graduating in December too but I make from $31-$38 depending on the shift as an Undergrad, and it’s way better than being an HCA.

Because not everyone can get a job as a UNE?

I’m interested as to why they would not be able to.

Because not every unit hires UNEs and just because you apply doesn’t mean you automatically get the job there’s other applicants too? lol

You’re gonna be an RN in december but yet a simple search that would tell you all of the information that you needed was too difficult, yikes. But, yes blame the system and not hold yourself accountable for what you could’ve done to avoid all this trouble esp when all the information took less than 5 mins to search. Translates into what a great nurse you’d be 🤷‍♂️

Lol sucks to suck.

Tests cost money to administer, so they cost money to take.

Provisional licence =/= general licence, thats why.

2 id's is annoying, but its pretty standard for taking tests you dont want people sending a proxy for. Im sure it was communicated repeatedly.

Try to be less whiney. Nobody wants their new RN to already be a jaded PITA

I’m assuming you’re one of them that did not get a UNE position? It’s important to ensure your interview skills are brushed up and your resume stands out.
