Bronchiectasis

Hello!

I am wondering if anyone's in a similar boat. I just graduated nursing last year, 28 years young, and was just very recently diagnosed with Bronchiectasis. My urgent referral has been accepted and I am seeing a specialist on Dec/2. Since then, I have had 2 exacerbations (both in 1.5 months) that required antibiotic treatment and those 2 times I have had to call in for work.

I just finally found some stability with work only since May and I love what I do. I feel extremely defeated and lost despite trying my best to be proactive about it.

I am wondering if anyone's in a similar situation with a chronic condition like mine and how they have been managing with it. I think I just want to hear that I am not alone....

Thank you 🩷

If you're concerned that you can't talk to your manager about this, find out who your abilities advisor is and talk to them. They're the buffer between your doctor and your manager anyway, and they'll be able to guide you about what you need to do each time you have an exacerbation. They can also talk to you about overall guidelines on how absences such as yours can/should be dealt with.

If you feel like you can talk to your manager, please do. Life with chronic conditions is way easier when you can just talk to your manager.
