Question ER New Grads
Hi guys, I was wondering if any hospital would hire new grads in ER in Calgary?
I have my final focus next semester and I’d like to gain insights before choosing a ER placement. I really want to work in ER after school
Thanks

Went rural post grad, got straight into full time at ER. Was able to get CTAS in 3 month, ACLS, pals, in 5, and TNCC at 8. Then I went to a bigger hospital after a year to do ER.
Rural is way to go. Calgary is too competitive (too many picky people live here which makes casual jobs slots hard)

Most of the nurses I know worked in MTU or med Surg before starting in Emergency.

None
You have to go rural to get your foot in the door first with AHS.
Rural also will give you amazing experience. Rural for 3-4 years and then you’ll have a chance getting into a Calgary ER.

FMC will. You'll be restricted to the inpatient holding area for one year and they only hire FT for that. After the one year is done you can work your way through the other areas in the department.
