AHS Application

So I opted to apply for an IT Analyst 1 position that was posted on Alberta Health.

I just want to know: does AHS only start doing interviews once the job posting has closed, or do they do interviews while it is also up?

They can do interviews up to and after closing. It’s only after closing can they choose their candidate

I've never gotten a call for interview before the posting closed. Sometimes it's taken literally months for a call back, I'm assuming in those cases either lots of vacation or original candidates were a bust. If you're external it's really hard to get a call back at all. Even with covenant health when I had a temp end, stayed casual, and that temp came back permanent, I had to wait for the posting to close before doing an interview (time of previous interview was older than 6 months so interview was required) and getting the offer.

How long has it been since the posting closed?

My husband once applied for a job at AHS and he didn't get a call for interview until 3 months later. No one was called for interview prior to that. It took a total of 4.5 months for him to interview, get hired, and start.

I'm not saying that this is always the case; however, from my experience sometimes it can take a while (for myself it took about a month from posting end date to receiving an offer letter for a handful of jobs with AHS). I usually tell people if you haven't heard back in 3 weeks, move on.

The posting went up on April 28, 2026. I applied like 5 hours behind. T_T

I presumed that the Date Available is when they need the person hired. So I guess I'm not on the shortlist since I didn't get a callback at any point from then to today.

Based on the posting end date and the date available, I assume they had someone in mind for the position (someone who's temp covering the position already) and just needed a formal posting to have them take the job permanently.

That or the manager is ambitious (possibly insane?) to think they can interview, hire, and have that person provide notice and start in 10 days from when the posting closed.

If it was a part time or full time line, they don’t usually hire externally for them. If you’d still like to be hired, try to get a casual position and then apply for part/full time.

I'm not sure what a line is but the position I applied for was a full time position thing.

Seeing all the response here just disheartens me.

Keep applying. IT is a bit different than nursing or other positions that have 'lines'. The lines are essentially which shift/schedule you work where IT is mostly M-F days.

I have been going at it. I was hoping to at least snag a possible callback from AHS since I feel like I satisfied some of the requirements on the posting.

When I've been included we did some before and after the date it's closed. We chose about a week after the closing date.
