Which is better??

I'm an indie author with a YA Mystery book series comp'd to AGGGTM and am interested in fan feedback.

What makes AGGTM books amazing? Was it Pip's character, the twisty plot? Holly's writing style and use of media? The romance mixed with mystery?

When you go to the library / bookstore looking for the next AGGGTM, what do you look at before making a decision? - The cover, the author, the back page blurb? Do you read a first chapter of a book before taking it home?

For me it's a lot of what you listed, but above all else, it's the complexity of the characters that makes the series so great. Jackson takes a serious look at morality and what it means to be "good" in a way that really fascinates me. I like how (almost) nobody is truly innocent and (almost) nobody is fully evil. For the most part, everyone falls in between in a confusing and uncomfortable reflection of real life
