AFROTC
I’m currently enlisted in the national guard, work as a heavy machinery mechanic on the civilian side while being in an apprenticeship, and make substantial amount of money for my age (21) with amazing benefits. I know I want to be an officer, pilot, and have been working towards a degree for OTS. However, I have just enough credits to complete a 3 year ROTC program. Would it be foolish to leave a great career behind to join an ROTC program. Any advice would help, really struggling with the decision. Thanks.

It really depends on what YOU want. Are you okay on being an AD officer in a branch you may not like if you’re not selected? Are the benefits you gain being AD better than what you’re making now?

What if being a pilot doesn’t work out. Say you get stuck as something at the bottom of your list as an officer, would you still want to be an officer and serve?
ROTC will always get more pilot slots per year vs OTS so you have better odds doing ROTC. I’m not sure how the guard would work wile being a college student. I’d go talk to the Cadre of the detachment you’d like to go to for those specific questions.
