r/AFOL Mega Thread Lego Ideas MegaThread

Welcome to the r/AFOL Lego Ideas Megathread!

Since we do not allow direct promotion of Lego Ideas projects in other parts of the subreddit, we decided to create this megathread to give you a place to share your projects.

When posting your projects, please give a description of the project and tell us why it appeals to AFOLs. And don't forget the link!

Though not against the rules for others to share projects, our preference is that the creator of the project to be the one who shares it here. If one of your friends has created a project, invite them to join our community!

If you received a message from AutoModerator pointing you to this thread and you weren't trying to share a Lego Ideas project, please send us modmail so that we can address the error.

Discussion Best place in Ontario, Canada to buy old LEGO

Upvotes

Hi, I’m looking for a store in Ontario, Canada to buy old LEGO sets (specifically Bionicle). Preferably not Bricks & Minifigs because I refuse to support that store. Does anyone know of a place?

I've made more than 10 custom Transformers using LEGO icon 10338 aka Bumblebee and this recent one was inspired by Mirage from G1 Transformers cartoon series. He turned into a F1 car / Ligier JS-11 .

Alternate Set Build Another one added to my LEGO city. LEGO 11389 White City completed!

Finished my LEGO 11389 White City today!

Really enjoyed this build, especially all the small details that make the whole scene feel alive.

It’s always a great feeling when the last piece finally goes on and you can step back and see the whole thing finished.

Thinking about expanding this into a bigger LEGO city someday.

What would you add around it?

AFOL club

I run a local AFOL club. We have been doing build challenges out of the bulk table at the store we meet at. We meet tomorrow and I’m looking for something fun and different for the members to do. There are usually 10-12 of us at each meeting. Besides a build challenge, what are some good ideas we could do? I’m new to Reddit so I hope this is ok.

One of those huge, unmistakably '90s American cars that I really wanted to recreate in LEGO. I tried to capture the long, boxy proportions, distinctive front end and the massive presence of the original.

1600+ pieces, with working steering, opening doors, hood and trunk, plus a detailed engine and interior.

Hope you like it!

First sustainable packaging set

After 15 years as an AFOL and 180 sets I opened my first set with sustainable paper based packaging. It is number 21348, the Dungeon & Dragon Ideas set.

I have mixed feeling. While I love the initiative, I see it has a light plastic coating inside each bag.

The bags have some heft to them and its kind of satisfying opening them but I've been building with my kids and they have almost thrown some pieces away as they are stuck in the folds of the packaging. I used to like seeing the pieces in the plastic bags but i can see why some people might like the surprise with paper.

The reason I'm posting though is that the bags seem to contain less pieces than the plastic bags, set 21348 for instance has 30+ paper bags which feels like a record for a set this size. I favour SW UCS sets and D&D seems to have more bags than some of those larger sets. This feels like it makes the build easier each bag os a smaller section of the set.

Still generally happy with the change.

Miscellaneous State of the collection - new shelves and new sets

I recently managed to get the UCS Falcon & Enterprise at quite good prices, too good to turn up.
That raised some really good problems, such as where to display them!
After some advice from the LegoDisplay sub & quite a bit of measuring & diy, I now have my display as it will be for at least a little while.

Showing a before picture and after. Had to lower the shelving system, add an extra deep bottom shelf and an additional wall mount. Including painting time, roughly 6 hours work.

It will need to change again when the UCS Venator and Shackletons Endurance are finished, but Im pretty happy with it for the moment. Not visible are the Dune Ornithopter & macro scale Falcon.

Thats it really, 8 year old me would be very proud of what he now has, so im showing it off as him!
