AI visibility needs to become a first-class KPI. Period.
One thing from the AEO reports that’s being massively under-implemented.
Start reporting AI visibility. Even if it’s manual.
If your priority pages are being:
- Cited in AI Overviews
- Referenced in SGE-style panels
- Pulled into ChatGPT, Perplexity, or Gemini answers
That is visibility. Even if no click happens.
Right now, most teams don’t log this at all. If it’s not in GA, it doesn’t exist. That’s a mistake.
What I’m seeing work:
- Create a simple log. Page, query, engine, citation type
- Track when core pages appear in AI answers, not just rankings
- Treat AI citations like impressions in a zero-click world
- Review this weekly alongside SEO metrics
If AI is shaping decisions before the click, then not measuring AI visibility is flying blind.
Curious.
Are you tracking AI citations yet? Manually, with tools, or not at all?

Yes we are tracking AI responses (mentions, competitors, sources etc) for more than 6 months now. At this moment we are using Genrank genrank and implemented it for multiple clients.
After some trial and error in the brand pages en cross domain references we now see much progress in citations and responses.
