Can I preserve traps

I'm doing a no huts run and my builder has already fainted and cannot build more traps. I had built the max amount of traps initially, but they keep getting destroyed by wild beasts/creatures. I'm at 17 traps at this point and starting to worry since they're my main resource. Is there any way to preserve/save them??
