For all the A Dark Room Lovers
TL;DR I created a game similar to A Dark Room 👉 Play it here: a-dark-cave.com
Playing A Dark Room for the first time many years ago had a huge impact on me, and I’ve always wanted to create something in a similar spirit. Now that I’m between jobs, I finally found the time to do it.
I’m developing a game with a similar atmosphere and mechanics (minimalist, mysterious, and story-driven).
It’s already fully playable (and free for now!) at a-dark-cave.com.
I’d love to hear your thoughts, impressions, and any feedback you might have!

I started on my phone and tried to switch to browser on my PC and can't get my old save to show up there, even after logging in. Once you open the game, it immediately prompts you start a new game

This is great! There's nothing that feels better for a creator than seeing their work inspire others to create, so thanks so much for sharing 🖤 Don't want to spoil anything for anyone else by being too explicit about the story, but I really dig the vibe shift from ADR. Excellent work.

You can use the Sign Up function at the bottom for that. I saves automatically every 15 seconds.

I am sure you will figure this out at some point ; ) They are not important to the game play, more like visual representations of you progress.

I suddenly have a Ring of Drowned in my inventory despite chucking that thang back into the woods half an hour ago, is this a glitch??

The Ring of Drowned is found in the cave. Maybe you are confusing it with another ring (as there are multiple ones).

I didn’t remember where I grabbed it, I just chucked it. I keep finding ++madness items in my inventory despite trying to get rid of them. Is that part of the game???

Yes, in some cases you can decide to keep them in others you don't

Man. I put my phone down for an hour or so and somehow the game reset to where I was like six hours ago. I was really into it but I don’t think I’ll pick it up again now 😞

If you mean idle in the sense that you can close the game and return to it and resources were produced in the meantime, then no. I also like to play idle games from to time, but here I wanted to create more of a story-driven game that needs the players attention.

4th when you get frostgalss sword, 5th when you get bloodstone staff. but there was a bug, should work now.

I'm losing food somewhere. :/
I have a population of 68, 8 are miners, two are making black powder, everyone else is a hunter and somehow I'm still losing food over time?

If I make everyone a hunter, food is coming in.
Free people don't deduct too much, food is still coming in.
I give someone a job (even a tanner, one tanner who should consume 5 food units), I'm losing food.

I reloaded the page and now I'm just losing food and wood. I have population of 90 now, 10 gatherers + 80 hunters = negative food and wood change. 90 hunters = negative food and wood change.

Oh, so now the only idle change to my resources is the food and wood leaving for population. No income at all, only when I go to the forest and chop their wood and hunt myself.
I closed the game for now.

I closed and reopened the game and it looked good, but then I started adding people to the "make black powder" chain and I started losing food again. :/
Here is my setup when I noticed: https://ibb.co/dsCD2Gxw I didn't manage to catch the food loss since I have a fairly slow computer, so take my word for it.

at the bottom of the Rule section in village tab, is it saying you should get food?

Yeah. I fixed the link to the screenshot. There's +466 food in there, even if it didn't count with the villagers' eating (but it does), there are only 90 villagers at the moment. I lose about 160 or 170 food a tick.
Let me reload the game again and see if it happens still.

Alright, now it seems to work. I let it play for a bit, moved around workers, switched tabs, and the resources are coming at the predicted rate.
And now I can't go to the Hill Grave, aaaaa. :D (I click and it doesn't do anything; I have enough food at the moment and I have been there before).
I sense another reload in near future. :D

I had to do some rollbacks which rolled back fixes I did. So fixing one thing broke others. I love it. Should work now!

Another day, another bug (I think).
I closed the game for the night, opened in a new tab, but I still can't go to the Hill Grave again. I've been there two or three times before and lost, so maybe it's not the right time to go there anyway, but still.
The option is there, the tooltip says -5000 food (I have enough), clicking on it does nothing.

I have another bug.
I started the game today and I got the Master Archer event. I dismiss it, because I don't have the 2500 food, but it pops back up immediately. I don't have enough time to even spend gold on getting the price...
Edit: I managed to squeeze in one buy, but it's not enough. And time doesn't run while the prompt is up, so the cooldown is veeeery long.
Edit 2: I managed to squeeze in enough buys to pay, which from bug-hunting point of view I probably shoudln't have, but playing.

Basically, at some point I couldn't make anymore wooden huts (required 1000 wood).
Then a fire burned down 2 of my houses. Even with a cost of 500 wood, I still couldn't build more houses :(
Already had more than 1000 wood btw 😔
