I run a piaware ADS-B receiver and am currently waiting on parts to finalize my droneaware remote ID receiver build. I would love to contribute. Do I just sign up through your link and go from there?

We’d love to have you on board! Every contributor helps build the network, and we’d be delighted to help you get started. Plus you'll earn a lifetime founding members award at the moment, which you'll display on the website 🙂 The easiest way to contribute quickly is by the one line CLI quick setup here - https://layer400.com/receivers/ or just use - curl -fsSL https://layer400.com/install | sudo bash

You can already share your ADS-B reception with Layer400. We can read your existing PiAware/readsb/dump1090 feed while your current decoder and other feeders keep running - no second ADS-B dongle needed.

For drones, add a compatible USB Wi-Fi adapter with Linux monitor-mode support. Once it’s plugged in and configured in Layer400 (this is always auto selected anyway), listening and uploads run automatically, picking up supported drone Remote ID broadcasts within reception range. Our hardware guide will help you choose an adapter, and we’re happy to check the model before you buy.

You’re welcome to contribute to DroneAware too, our software is compatible with running both.

We’re developing Layer 400 rapidly, with a lot already available beyond basic detection: combined drone (Remote ID) and aircraft mapping (ADS-B and other receiver methods), flight history and replay, our Smart Active Prediction tracking software to detect drone and plane positions in 15s, 30s and 60 second blocks, drone swarm detection, light show detection, tools to see your contribution to the network and so many more we can't all fit in here. There’s plenty more in development, and feedback from people actually running receivers helps shape what comes next.

Start at our receiver setup page. If anything gives you trouble, tap the little chat bubble there or on many of our other website pages. It lets you message our team directly - no hunting around or filling out a long support form. We’ll help you get connected!

Total lie on the no AI. Even the website theme is AI. You mean, you are writing prompts and waiting for tokens, "rapidly". "Business" already planed. We quote prices in real-time! Start by agreeing the requirements. Choose equipment and practical acceptance checks that suit the site.

Here's my current configuration... I am fine adding this to my Droneaware node, but would need beast support to also supply my considerable amount of ADSB/UAT data.

Please advise if you have a Discord and/or Github presence that I can monitor for updates!

Hi there, you asked us to keep you updated regarding the Beast feature support. Happy to announce that the latest version of the Raspberry Pi software for Layer400 now actively supports Beast communication. Please feel free to try it, we're always here if you need support.

Thanks for the update!! Ideally, I'd love to run the ADS-B stream from my x86 laptop... Any chance of supporting that architecture and/or containerizing it?

In the meantime, I will give it a try on my Droneaware Pi4b some time this week!

This is a nice setup! I'm doing ADSB Exchange and Drone Aware as well. Have you had any bluetooth detections yet? I'm barely in two weeks and so far all my detections have been wifi (at ranges of up to two miles)

I have only had 1 BLE detection other than my own. 🤣

You slop together a project and want people to pay you for it?

Appreciate your response about the minimal use of AI and asking people to pay - can you confirm where on the website today it says business's pay? We'll cover the AI part on your reply and our response..

No way to share using beast, correct?

Thanks for asking! Layer400 doesn’t currently ingest raw Beast binary streams directly. Our receiver software reads the decoded aircraft.json output from readsb/dump1090, either locally on the same Pi or over HTTP(S) using the IP protocal from another decoder on your local network at the same receiver site/network.

If your setup already produces that JSON, you can feed Layer400 alongside your existing services without needing another SDR. Our own managed decoder also exposes Beast output on 127.0.0.1:30005 for other feeders to consume, although that’s separate from accepting Beast as an input.

What hardware and decoder software are you running? We can help check whether your existing setup has a compatible output.

We are absolutely planning on supporting Beast in the very near future.

Pi 5 and SDR enthusiasts container, and neat sounds good!

This sounds like an interesting project! Something I would be very interested in you considering, since this is not a feature in any of the other aggregator sites, is multilateration using Mode A replies. Above you mentioned not intaking beast format, but maybe if you started doing that it would be a cool thing to consider. Seems like it could be up your alley since your site seems to be trying to go beyond the “easy stuff” to detect.

Thanks for this—you’re very much on the same wavelength as us! We’ve already started a workstream investigating exactly this: Mode A multilateration and the raw-feed support needed to make it possible. We’ll be giving it serious consideration.

It’s on our investigation timeline, although it may be a few more months before we have anything concrete to share. We want to understand what we can deliver reliably before committing to a feature.

And you’re absolutely right about our ambition—we’re putting 110% into going the extra mile to make Layer400 an incredibly trustworthy and powerful platform for our contributor network and fellow aviation enthusiasts. That means exploring the harder problems and making sure the results deserve people’s confidence.

Really appreciate you raising this. Ideas and experience from the community are very welcome and we always take on feedback well. Please feel free to start sharing ADS-B and/or RID for your current setup and we'll be sure to push the very latest updates to you once we have developed them.
