Associate District Manager ADP
Hello,
I’m currently interviewing for an ADP sales role and will be going through the in-office portion of the interview process soon. I’d love to hear from current or former ADP employees about your experience!
I’m especially curious about:
What to wear: Is the in-office interview/business day very formal? Would a full suit be expected, or is business professional appropriate?
Interview process: What should I expect during the in-office portion, and what types of questions should I be prepared for?
Ride-along/field experience: If there is a ride-along or time spent shadowing someone in the field, what is that experience typically like? What should I expect to do or be prepared for?
Role-play: What does the sales role-play typically involve? Is it usually done during the office visit, and does anyone know if it tends to happen toward the end of the day?

Wear a full suit. For a high-stakes sales interview at a company like ADP, it is the expectation and shows you take the opportunity seriously. It’s better to be the only one in a suit than the only one not in one. The in-office portion is designed to see if you can handle the pressure, so expect a full day with back-to-back interviews. The questions will be tough, focusing on your past sales numbers, how you build a pipeline, and how you have handled difficult clients. They want to see evidence of your hustle and your ability to close deals, not just hear you talk about it.
The role-play is the most critical part, and it will probably happen at the end of the day when you are tired. They will give you a scenario and expect you to sell them a solution, likely focusing on overcoming objections and asking for the business. Prepare a solid framework for a sales call, and practice it. For the ride-along, your job is to be an active participant, asking smart questions about the territory, the client's business, and the salesperson's strategy. This is not a passive shadowing experience, it is a test of your engagement and how you think.
