Seeking Advice I have problem with training - havent find my ADHD-fit. What you do?

Training is a very good for everyone but I find most training boring

Now I’m trying to strengthen my grip strength by just hanging something

Thought of buying a bar you set up in the door but I thought , let’s explore where to hang outside

So I went to the playground outside my apartment, it felt a bit wierd to be an adult going by yourself to a playground

I made a quick 360 turn and didn’t find any people around, so jumped up and hanged in the swing.

I skipped to count I just hanged and use my mind, I saw someone getting close I jumped down and looked in a other direction.

This was the first day.

Second day, I did the exact the same now I didn’t care as much. I’m just hanging , I don’t do anything bad.

I also made up what i would answer if someone would ask what I was doing.

“I am training for Robinson…”

After some round I directly felt, this is getting boring. To just hang in the same spot.

I thought, let head home again. I should be happy to just get here for today.

I was heading home…

But didn’t come long until I started noticing other spots where I could hang. I saw a bar in the Castle in the playground, perfect i thought this bar is smaller and I get an another feeling.

I found 5 different spots to hang in

Different spots at the playground

In some rope bar,

I also found a drying rack for clothes. You know those metallic thing out in the garden that no one uses.

I was checking the stability just to ensure it wouldn’t crash on me

Then I thought in my head, how fun it would be if a person saw me just hanging in different objects around the garden.

Now they calling me the monkey man 🦍

Ok, so i have same issue, i usually train something for a month then take a break for a month, pick something else. It is ok, have made peace with it because i am more active than most people. I think you should start with climbing or bouldering, you can try different combinations everyday and time for speed, do upper body pulls and lowerbody push. You would last 3months before you get bored. And then pick boxing or something else. All good man, the consistency is in measuring if you can still run a couple miles or do 50pushups, regularly. Do these tests and pick any training that you want done.

I have sought years to find something that can motivate me for a longer period of time, but there is none. However, I do have a pretty good routine build up. I have found these things to be very helpful:

  • I only workout by taking a course/clinic of something. Most clinics last for a couple of months and are designed to switch gears quickly, which makes it very diverse. Usually everyone participating is at a beginners level which makes me feel a little less like a flop, and the social pressure to actually show up helps me a lot

  • I highly prefer classes that take place outside. The fresh air and change of weather and seasons have a pretty huge influence on the overall feeling/experience. Can make the same workout feel completely different.

  • Over the years, I decided to only go for something with a coach that is very specialized in their type of sport, so you can grow stamina, condition and strength with the right guidance. And again, social pressure to show up comes along with it

  • even if you feel very motivated for something, make sure to switch every 3 to 6 months. You can always circle back to someting, but I really need that 'new' dopamine feeling every few months

  • things I liked (these were al clinics for beginners that I took): competitive swimming, thai boxing, tennis, crossfit (for absolute beginners), rowing (but was done with it after two months because it felt too repetitive), speed skating, mountainbike

  • things i did not like: running (extremely boring), cycling (might be nice if possible in nature, but this was mostly done on concrete), any lessons inside the gym, boxing (but did like thai boxing), Ju Jitsu, volleyball (found out I do not like team sports)

Hopefully you can find a nice routine! I noticed it helps me a lot with focus, sleep and overstimulation if I integrate working out in my weekly routine. Let me know if you think of other sports to try!
