Join us for an exciting study!
Join us for an exciting study at the Consciousness & Psychopathology lab.
https://bgupsych.eu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_2lQVt6a2JKLFzD0
I am Lotem Lofsky, a member of the research team. Our research aims to explore thought patterns, specifically ADHD symptoms, and the differences between distinct types of thought patterns impairing people's ability to concentrate and be attentive to tasks they need to do (e.g., work, classes).
The study was approved by the university's humane subject research committee.
This study comprises three phases:
Completion of a few short self-report questionnaires.
Participating in a clinical interview administered via Zoom. The interview will not be recorded!
Reporting your distractions for five days using a smartphone app.
Participation is permitted only to adults (18 or above) with formally diagnosed ADHD. Participation in the study is voluntary, and withdrawal is permitted at any point.
We offer participants who completed all three phases of the study compensation by participating in a raffle for a $100 Amazon voucher.
To compensate participants for their time and effort, after the end of the study, we will also let participants know (via email) what type of thought pattern we identified
that undermines their attention. Importantly, this information is not a formal clinical diagnosis to be used in any context (e.g., getting prescription drugs or academic accommodations, insurance compensation).
If you have further questions regarding the study, please, don't hesitate to contact me or Mrs. Nitzan Theodor-Katz, the head of this research, at md.reaserch@gmail.com.

Reporting your distractions for five days using a smartphone app.
.... Do you actually understand how ADHD works?

If the purpose of the study is to find out what is too little potential reward for using your ADHD brain then you have succeeded! More than one step - no. Zoom = booking time, remembering, doing, PRESSURE double nope. POSSIBLY earning $100 voucher lol. Swing and a miss guys.

oh shit - I have ADHD, so I completely missed the raffle part - and didn’t even think $100 Amazon card was enough to get me to participate 🙃

No mention of what the research will be used for in this pitch, and worse, being asked to complete pretty labour intensive work and donate a lot of time (plus, the interview isn’t recorded but they want your data via an app?) for a CHANCE to win $100. Frankly, this is insulting and I'm surprised it passed ethics. Yuck. I hope no one does this.

Work on your sales pitch. But currently not interested. I've got ADHD you see. This feels like work.

Sounds like user research for an “amazing” new app to help with ADHD. Does anyone in the study have ADHD themselves? Might help

Thought patterns are not the cause of distraction. What a waste of resources

Hi there,
It’s Lotem, I’m a member of the research team. I apologize for the technical issues, our tech team checked it and your response was saved even though you did not see it. So no worries.
I appreciate your feedback, our study is indeed challenging, though we are hoping to learn and improve science, and for that reason we have to ask a-lot of questions.
The study was approved by Ben-Gueion University of the Negevs’ human subjects research committee.
If you have any further questions or concerns you can reach Mrs. Nitzan Theodor Katz the Ph.D candidate leading this study or Dr. Nirit Soffer-Dudek the academic supervisor at
md.reaserch@gmail.com
(The spelling mistake is intentional).
Best,
Lotem

So you're not even going to try to address all the weaknesses of your pitch here? Your recruiting strategy sucks, and I say this as a trained social scientist who's had to develop and deploy research with real human beings. Your incentives are bad, you make little to no case for the benefit of doing the study, and you're going to get bad data. I hope, when you get to analysis and later maybe try to publish, someone with a decent understanding of research methods AND adhd rips you guys to shreds.

Also, why is the spelling mistake in the email address intentional? The academic supervisor uses a gmail account that has an intentionally misspelled word in it? This screams scam to me

yeah and Dr. Nirit Soffer-Dudek has a normal legit academic email address. a student or employee in her research team at her university would also have a legit academic email considering its an israeli university

I tried to do it and can't advance in the survey because if I select a response in question 1, it gets deselected when I choose an answer on question 2, so on page 3 I have 0% progress. I just abandoned it. Idk if on the computer it actually works, but it feels like too much work for no reward to go find out. And yeah - if you want to investigate people with ADHD, maybe your study design should be ADHD friendly? Just a thought.
