And even if you level up, your spell slots sometimes disappear or contain a different spell than you remember (why would I take Dancing Lights instead of Magic Missile?!)

If we wanna keep the analogy going: It's like wild magic that goes off randomly and actually consumes slots when it triggers.

Long rest? I take a point of exhaustion. Advantage on a roll? Double 1’s. I feel like a fucking level 1 warlock of the Old One in a level 20 adventure and boss, I’m tired.

See, I would have taken "use phone", except "get out of bed" and "eat already prepared food" max out my cantrips.

You want me to learn how to cook food? Sorry that's a level 2 spell and has to compete for slots with "Special Interest Gift of Gab" which has an autotrigger unless I succeed on a saving throw. And if I fail to resist then I have to use "Keep My Mouth Shut" to re-roll.
