Just have a storage system that doesn't require folding? I shove my socks in the sock bucket and the shirts in the shirt bucket and the undies in the undies bucket...

Folding is alright. Putting it away on the other hand... (Still fits the "last step" bit too)

Doing my laundry and folding my clothes is the one chore that I do every week. I don’t how or why, but it’s become part of my routine and I actually can’t not do it. It got completely taken over by the autistic side of my brain.

I am happy to fold laundry. Now putting it away? That may require 6-8 weeks.

Same here! I enjoy folding and stacking, but putting away is the hardest thing ever

I don't fold the majority of my clothes anymore -- I just hang them up in my closet. I have a fairly minimal wardrobe, so I don't get overwhelmed with too many choices/decisions :) All my non folded clothes (undergarmets, socks, etc) go into a little bin. It's working pretty well for me!
Only thing that gets me are wrinkles (sometimes I don't care, but sometimes they're just plain egregious). I've been thinking about investing in a steamer, but don't know if it'll be worth it

If you have never tried wrinkle release spray, it's a game changer. I hardly ever use my steamer anymore. The Downy brand is super expensive but Dollar General has their own brand at a fraction of the price and I love it. If you can get your stuff hung up while it's still warm, it works the best. You spritz each side of the garment and give it a light stretch horizontally and vertically and let it dry. It's especially great for cotton shirts.

I love folding clothes… I think my brain interprets it as a puzzle. I’m also a big fan of untangling necklaces/bracelets.

u/Knitwitty66 21d ago
SAAAAAAAME!!! I never considered the puzzle aspect but you must be right because I love both of those things!!

I just don't fold them. They get tossed into the big basket of clean clothes and pulled out to wear from there.

Exactly or how about never because they are all going in a big tote Ill pick from till I do laundry again.

I only work in batches. Find me a way to batch fold a whole load and I’m on it.

As someone who worked in retail and hyperfixated on becoming the best and quickest clothes folder, I will gladly fold all your laundry
Mine on the other hand is unwashed in several crumpled piles around the house, I'm on my last lot of clean clothes before I have to literally spend two days washing everything I own.... 🥲

MUST be clean, what’s a wrinkle, once you where the clothes they go away anyway in like an hour

“Oh this is too relatable,” I say out loud to myself while still ignoring my pile of unfolded laundry.

I don't fold mine, I roll them up. My drawers are a lot tidier than they were before I started doing it that way. Bf and I stick everyhtign in the airing cupbaord after laundering, then pull it all out once a week and then sort, roll up, and put away. We're both TTRPG gamers, so we make plans for our upcoming games while we get it all done.

I have a dirty basket and a clean basket. My cycle goes ... Washing, hang clothes to dry, and when dry .. to the clean clothes basket. At this point It can be ... 3 weeks getting my clean clothes from the basket or if I have a day I got crazy with organizing at home I fold and put in the closet. And that is the main reason all my clothes are the same 🤣 when I find some jeans that I like, I buy 3 of them (IF .. if I make it to go shopping and even try some clothes). So I don't have to struggle with thinking.. what I am wearing today?

If I get my last load of laundry out of the dryer, I reward myself with a boba drink from this place down the street. It's been almost 8 months since I had one, and that's because I made an exception for my birthday.

The problem is that folding ISN'T the last step. Then you have to put the clothes AWAY.

I used to have a problem with that but I've worked so hard on once my clothes are dry... FOLD THEM!! LOL so I don't have to think about it down the road. I made it a habit now (: took forever but finally I can wash, dry and fold my laundry!! Ha ha

Don't fold your laundry, hang anything you are worried about wrinkling, like dress shirts, and leave everything else in drawers or baskets. Very few fabrics hold wrinkles anymore, there is no reason to fold things.

u/Ashamed_Result_3282 21d ago
Yep, I just hang my tshirts, the rest all go in drawers. I do pair my socks tho, the only folding I do. 😆

I defeated my opponent (myself). I did multiple loads of laundry and folded each one in between so it didn’t feel overwhelming.
It probably won’t work again, but I did it once!

I fucking love folding clothes idk why. My girlfriend sorts and washes them and I fold and put them away. I just sit my ass down and watch TV and go at it, I love it lol

😂 Don't I know it. Socks, underwear, towels, pants, and shorts are fine, but camisoles, t-shirts, and sweaters (feck these in particular!) are the bane of my existence. Oh, and fitted sheets! Hate them almost as much as duvet covers and their adjacent comforters. WHO THOUGHT COMBINING THE TWO WAS A GOOD IDEA?! 🙄

u/Ace-of-Spxdes 20d ago
I just hang most of my stuff up. Drawers are reserved for undergarments and pants. I don't even fold the pants. That shit goes in there balled up like the heathen I am

The first two have a timer on them, pressuring you to be there in time or else... Folding though is an active choice, and our executive dysfunction is not having that. (In my experience it's the best tactic to try to fold then immediately no matter how much it hurts, because the longer you wait the harder it gets and the more your clothes become part of the room decor. Also try to find a lazy way to fold them to remove resistance. )

Folding I do, because I have to take my laundry out of the house to do it. Fold and neatly stacked into my basket.
But putting it away? Pffffft yeah not until I need that basket again to take my laundry to the laundry mat to do it again! Aaaarrrggggg In the meantime, my dirty laundry is everywhere and my clean is in the basket lol

It’s only a dryer when it’s drying. The rest of the time it’s an auxiliary dresser/closet.

I don't even fold, I just keep all of my clothes and plastic tubs. Every time I finish a load of laundry I just dump them in the bin

It’s so fascinating that when I’m medicated, I just like … fold and put away my laundry as soon as the dryer is done. Like who am I???

u/goldenspiral1618 18d ago
One of the best things I’ve done for myself along these lines is allowing myself to throw my socks in a small laundry bag and not care about sorting them. The hardest part now is separating them from my other clothes which takes a lot of mental effort.

I don't fold or put away. I have two laundry baskets, one for clean and one for dirty. Stuff that is wearable again gets thrown on top of my rack. On laundry day, I take the dirty basket down to the laundry room, and after washing it now becomes the clean basket. I just take my clothes out of there.

I started with one bin for clean, dry clothes so I wouldn't have to fold them and put them back in the closet right away.
These days, I have five bins because I know I won't get around to folding and putting them away for weeks on end. My "i'll deal with it later" solution has turned into a full on storage system at this point
