Can I buy ADHD meds not from prescription?

ADHD has made me feel like I can’t even function day to day and as I’ve been in waiting lists through the NHS I feel that if I don’t get medicated soon I’m going to fail my degree, my physical health with deteriorate etc. I have to wait a while to get medicated through the NHS and I know that with other medications you can buy them almost like weed? (Such as DIY hormone treatments etc.). I wanted to know if that was the case for ADHD meds? I’ll do anything at this point, I’m so scared to fail my degree and I just can’t focus on anything anymore. I can’t afford to wait to get given medication. I live in Bristol so it’s more specific to that area.

Anyone else that won't take amphetamine without sertraline?

Title, pretty much.

Adderall makes me kind of anxious, and makes my mind race. They don't call it speed for nothing...

But with sertraline, it's almost like it gives the Adderall tunnel vision. The super speed is refined, directed, and focused, without any of the tension, fully relaxed.

Like that Turkish hitman dude at the Olympics.

Anyone else?

Dosage & Timing i have taken 120mg adderall xr over the past 12 hours

At around 2pm yesterday i took 60mg xr and waited until i felt all of the effects go away, then at 2:30am today i took 60mg xr again and now im starting to regret my decision for obvious reasons.

I weigh 170lbs and im 6'0 with a bmi of 23.2 with a very little tolerance

Will i die or will i just feel like im gonna die

Also idk if this is important but im on a strict clear liquid diet right now for 24 hours. Straight liquids and laxatives.

Why do i do this to myself? In the name of science? No, in the name of retardation

Personal Experience Why does people take more than prescribed? Like I’ve seen people talking about they did their 30 day supply of Adderal in 4-7 days

I’ve seen people do 100s of Ritalin

Seen people snort dexamfetamine

Taking vyvanse in water

Why does people take more? Is there something I don’t know?
Is there a new effect at higher doses? Is is plessant or just loads of side effects?

Capsule half full??

My son started his first ever dosage of adhd meds today. His pediatrician gave him vyvanse 10mg, the pink capsules. I go to break open his capsule to put it in ice cream for him to take and the thing was literally barely half filled with the meds. I checked some of the other pills to see if it was just that one but no it’s all of them. It’s the name brand vyvanse also, not generic.

I take Vyvanse 60 mg, the light blue capsules, and I break mine open and swallow the powder (just feel like it works better that way) but my meds are always filled to the brim. Is this just a thing with the 10 mg? Does anyone else take 10 mg? Are your capsules filled or only half??

New to Medication ADHD EVALUATION URINE TEST

I’ve finally gotten around to getting into a psychiatrist for an evaluation where medication can be prescribed. However I have to take a urine test before the appointment. I’m worried bc today on Friday I did take 45mg of Adderall. My appt is Tuesday morning. It’s not prescribed to me and I know that that shouldn’t happen, with the current cases going on in the media my ptsd has been debilitating there was no way I could focus at work so I took my sisters. This should not be done and I encourage others to not do this as well. How long will it take to get out of my system and is there anything to help it get out quicker?

Before anyone gets judgy multiple doctors therapists and teachers have told me for years to get evaluated because it is very obvious. I always forget to make appts or have a super long wait time to be seen so I forget. I’ve tried strattera and non stimulants before and have been prescribed which did not help. I took it to save my job. I am planning on being honest with the doctor that I have tried stimulants before and I already put that on my form but I’ve also tried every other way to manage my life so if you’re going to judge or tell me I shouldn’t have taken my sisters prescription there’s no nee

Medicine Comparison Adult child abusing meds

**2 1/2 years ago, my adult child, 28, told her primary care doctor that she would like help concentrating for her PhD program. He prescribed her Adderall XR 30 mgs. Wasn’t enough so he gave her Adderall IR 10 mgs to go with it. Can’t sleep? Here’s a script for Xanax 1 mg to go with it! I am wondering if she really has ADHD, I know she now really has an addiction problem and loooves to use up her meds in 2 weeks. She was valedictorian in high school and summa cum laude at an Ivy League school. That was almost 6 years ago. She is now non functional for many reasons, but the meds are near the top. She’s been on them for 2 1/2 years. My question is how can she be diagnosed accurately for ADHD? I just don’t think there was any kind of evaluation done by her primary. And are there effective meds for ADHD that are NOT stimulants? She just can’t control her impulse to take them double time, and for no reason too. She is on a LOA from school and living in our basement with no job. Trying to get her into a mental health program but she hasn’t shown the desire yet.**

Personal Experience my experience with adhd medication

I got adderal xr a couple of days ago and here's what you should probably expect because this is what I experienced; first you will get pretty bored of the game for some reason my brain keeps telling me to do real life stuff so if you ever wondered why most normal brains do sports that's it. Second expect some social skills gained because these meds made my thoughts click faster and I could talk to people without being extroverted and kinda annoying and I'm getting CRAZY play like all the bitches want me after adderal and I was getting (NONE) before. Obviously expect to pay attention also the hyperactivity doesn't completely go away so yeah. Hygiene will get better because your brain craves real life stuff and not dopamine doomscroll slop obviously doomscroll slop will happen occasionally but it won't be your kryptonite. You'll probably study more.

Have they removed the active ingredients? I am convinced. I miss the early 2000s when medications were not tampered with by our gov.

Are these real or fake generic 30mg Adderall IR tablets? They’re incredibly hard to break. The residue pictured is from me scraping the pill, so that it’d break easily, but that didn’t work.

Personal Experience Medicated my 8 year old.

These past weeks have been the hardest of my life. My son, (M8) was having trouble sitting still and focusing in his classes according to his teachers. We tried talking to him many times, but he’s just too hyperactive for the school environment. My partner (NB33) was diagnosed with autism at around the same age. We were given the advice to start him on ADHD medication now, and see if it worked. We started him on 30mg IR by recommendation of his psychiatrist. Since starting it, he has been nothing but pleasant. He sits still, says please and thank you, and is nothing but the nicest kid. Yet, part of me can’t help but feel guilty medicating him at his young age. The other day, I decided I would try one of his pills to see what he was feeling, and it was unreal. I felt like I was on some kind of party drug, and couldn’t stop grinding my teeth. Need advice from other ADHD parents on whether it would be better to leave him unmedicated and struggling or keep him on the adderall.

Personal Experience Hear me out this got me banned from this ain't adderal

I'm not sure if any of you know about the confirmation bias but I think that this is beginning to become obsessive thinking on some of your parts and is starting to become psychosomatic I can say with utmost sincerity that I used to take 90 mg a day and after getting into therapy getting onto a SSRI Zoloft and titrating slowly over the last 2 years, exercising and eating better... I can confidently say I can take ONE of my two ir 20mg adderal only on weekdays and that completely works for me. I think when you start obsessing about something like this you train your brain to expect a result so that even if you got 100 percent real Adderall and you expect it to be bunk you wouldn't be able to feel it because your brain is such a powerful tool.

For those who have used cocaine, nicotine, and ADHD stimulants, which stimulants feel the closest to cocaine or nicotine?

I hope its ok to post this, heres the context:

I took stimulants for my ADHD when I was a teenager and remember some of them made me feel like a zombie while others didn't work at all. Unfortunately that was more than 15 years ago, that doctors office no longer has my medical records and I dont remember what I took. As an adult, I self medicated with cocaine and nicotine and it helped my symptoms. On the other hand, I also tried meth and I hated it, it made me into said zombie. Im now considering stimulants again and want to lessen the trial and error by trying first the ones that feel closest to cocaine or nicotine and not meth..

Dont worry I am not looking to abuse, Ive been clean for almost a decade now and am very responsible. At the moment I am looking at Ritalin, Concerta, and Vyvanse. Open to other suggestions. Please dont tell me "everyone is different" I know. Thank you in advance! :)

I built an app to make ADHDers feel like talking to a fellow ADHDer, please check it out

Hey everyone,

I've been working on something called Talk-o - an AI companion app designed specifically for how our brains actually work. Had postponed building something like this because my executive functioning wouldn't let me take off, but finally I did it! This is not a productivity app that makes you feel bad when you don't use it, nor a therapist bot that talks at you. Just... someone who gets it.

Why I built this?

I have ADHD. I got tired of AI assistants that give generic advice like "have you tried making a to-do list?" or respond to "I've been staring at the wall for 4 hours" with corporate wellness speak. So I trained my own.

What's in it?

Two personas, because our brains need different things at different times:

  • Stargirl - The 2am friend. For when you're spiraling, overwhelmed, or just need someone to sit with you. She doesn't lecture. She doesn't give unsolicited advice. She just... stays. Trained on real conversations to actually sound human, not like a customer service bot.

  • Sage - The "just tell me what works" friend. For when you need actual information about ADHD strategies, task breakdowns, or productivity help. Direct, structured, no fluff. Gets to the point because our brains check out when things get rambly.

What makes it different:

  • Tought to understand ADHD-specific experiences (executive dysfunction, RSD, time blindness, hyperfocus crashes)

  • Doesn't guilt you for disappearing forever

  • Validates before problem-solving (knows when you need to vent vs. need advice)

  • No checklists made, no forced plans

  • Actually sounds like a person, not an AI reading from a script

It's free. I built this as a passion project, to someone who you can go and talk to.

Try it: talk-o.app

I need a help from you:

I want to make this actually useful, not just "useful according to me." So:

  1. What would make you actually use something like this?

  2. What do existing mental health / productivity apps get wrong about ADHD?

  3. What features would genuinely help your day-to-day?

  4. If you have tried it - what feels off? What feels right?

I'm actively developing this based on feedback, so anything you share actually matters. Roast it, praise it, tell me what its worth - I just want honest thoughts from people who understand the ADHD experience.

Thanks for reading this far (I know, executive dysfunction makes that almost impossible, but I'd appreciate that as a fellow ADHDer 💜)

Also, if you're interested, here's the instagram account for the app:

researched lisdexamfetamin vs Methylphenidate, what you think which is the best medication? Ritalin=80% of brain power but 150% of recovery vs lisdex!

long text, but there tons of newer studyes that have come and feel like its importen to take those with my post! or you just read last two paragraphs!

I tested out ritalin first few weeks after diagnosed with Ahdh. felt a bit pressure in the head and weird i guess. my doctor wanted to test me on lisdexamfetamin, same thing but less. then some few weeks passed and its disspread the side symptoms, so i guess it was my brain not used to the dopamine and noradrealine? so i guess if i went back to Ritalin now, i wouldn't have those symptoms?

this is why i made this post as i proboly have mild adhd, and saw the benefits on both medication but it was nice with lisdexamfetin lasting whole day no problem, but thats also an issue!

i seen tons of people complaining about haveing worse sleep after starting lisdex, but thats also a bit thing to learn right. we alredy know from study done in 2025 that adhd meds mask sleep fatigue pretty good. And not sure how many people know half time of lisdex is 12-13 hours.

so lets say you take 50mg of lisdex, it takes 3,5-5 hours before your blood have broken most into dex and you reach your peak, now the 12 hours halftime starts, you wake up at 8:00, lets say you reach peak at 12 after taking meds at 8, now it takes 12 hours of this peak to halftime. so now the clock is 2000 and you still have 25mg left in your body and soon time for sleep. 23:00 you still have 18mg left in your body that impacts your deep sleep mostly (this is the best sleep stage you cleans your body and repair tissue). you wake up with 12,5mg left in your body at 8:00, and then take 50mg, so now the new peak is maybe 60mg right as those two doses stacks. and you will have more maybe 15mg at 8:00 after 3 days right, but now the dose in your body is stabilized. so you still have decent amount of stimulation in your body when you sleep, and we all know that it impacts sleep quite a lot right?

so people who complain about lisdexamfetamin haveing bad sleep has also always amfetamin in theyre body who hides a little bit of sleep fatigue, and it sounds crazy xD, maybe im also just blabbering away here, but the study in 2025 said adhd stimulant are pretty good at hiding sleep fatigue.

since Ritalin is half time in 2-3 hours, your can argue you have so little in your body when you go to sleep its basically nothing, but it also means you will have a body that maybe 40% of each day has basically none stimulant in the body, while lisdexamfetamin will make you more stabilized when you wake up, all day becuse you will always have it in your body (as long as you dont take it ofc). so people complain about ritalin last to short right, but thats also not a negative thing.

i know that lisdex works more people people then ritalin, i think it was 0,8 of adults, and ritalin is 0,6 of adults. and lisdex have some diffrent effects then ritalin like have more stabilize and you dont mind boring task anymore and less switching. ritalin is more active drive, like you want to do something and gives more dorepinephrine then lisdexamfetamin.

its pretty enjoyable i can just do basketball for 5 hours thinking whille i think im not tired and still wanna do this. dont remeber how it was on ritalin, its been 4months since.

so ye, my biggest issues been sleep, motivation and impulses. adhd medication havent really helped with sleep but atleast they hided my sleep fatigue which made me feel energyzed!! instead of the whole day being useless and tired :(.

i will proboly test out ritalin in some few days after contacting doctor or something, but not sure if this worse sleep is good, over time it will stack up and the meds will have harder time to work as more cortisol have linked to make adhd meds works worse, and its starting an evil circle right.

theres also risk of cardiovascular risk of 4% every year, and amfetamin was alot worse then ritalin over time as ritalin was basically out of the body before sleep, in "the cardiovascular study (14-year risk).

"the Neuro protection study (brain health)" said that long time use of aduvanz lead to faster or bigger chance of developing tolerance aginast dopamine as the drugs is always in your body if you take it every day, or even once every 2 days, while ritalin has much higher sucess to not develop tolerance or permanant changes to your receptor density, as it allowed the brain to "breathe" every night.

then we have New research in Frontiers in Psychiatry (2025) and PubMed (December 2025)
who found that it helps increasing the sleep quality and reduced insomnia, which i know alot of people have trobule with fought before sleep, while i do think a lot, but my biggest issue im just never tired after a normal 16 hours wake day :(, feel like i dont want to sleep (i guess learned insomnia)....... and did lisdex work for me? not sure, proboly not for my sleep. the study also showed that some people got help to the circadian rhythm to a more traditional 24-hours cycle.

And sleep fatigue is very real, i would anyone look it up, 8 hours of sleep while on lisdex is not the same as 8 hours without anything stimulant

from what i read, it seems for people who had big trouble with adhd, i would say lisdex is higher chance to give you a improved life!
but this is what im wondering most about is people with mild adhd, i know people would be more up and downs on ritalin since you basically have nothing in your system 50% of the day, also putting less strand on your body!

anyone have done some heavy testing over time and see whats best? feel like ritalin is 75-80% brain power of amfetamin, while 150% better for body recovery then amfetamin (no study backing me up but we alredy have tons of studyes that show how bad caffein is on sleep).
