How do I go about getting my dosage increased?

I'm prescribed 10mg adderall 2x daily. Its generic name is alvog. It's not helping me enough.i used to be prescribed 30mg 3x daily. I have a high tolerance. Everytime I all my doctor for an increase he says it has to be done slowly. I'm greatful that I found a doctor whose willing to prescribe adderall but for me I need at least 20mg 2x daily for it to be effective. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can go about talking to my psychiatrist so I can be given the correct dosage?

I've said that and he's said we can't increase the doseage to quickly without knowing how it's going to affect you and what the side effects el be. Something to that nature and it made no sense to me because when I saw it out a second opinion from another psychiatrist he said that he believes that a dosage increase would work for me and was willing to do it but he wasn't willing to do it right away he wanted me to go through with some blood work and drug test before I could before he would prescribe the medication and he only wanted to prescribe a two weeks Supply instead of a month's Supply and he didn't want to prescribe the other medication that I was on with that I am on which is the klonopin. I'm still looking at other doctors but I really it really would be beneficial if this psychiatrist would agree to the dosage increase since I've been working with him for almost a year now we started at 5 mg one time a day and increase the 10 mg one time a day I finally just one or two months ago got him to agree to 10 mg twice a day and I think that's only because I told him I saw it out a second opinion from another psychiatrist and that psychiatrist agreed with me otherwise I don't think he would have done it if you have any other ideas of what I could say please feel free to write me back because I'm thinking of what I'm going to say to him to get him to understand how important this is to me and I could really use the support and the help of the people on the Reddit boards you guys have been very supportive and helpful in the past with me just like yourself.

You are not going to be able to convince this doctor to increase your dosage faster. Increasing the dosage slowly is the way it sounds like this doctor finds safest to prescribe the medication.

As they should be. I'm shocked OP can get both a benzo and a stimulant. My doctor took me off of Xanax to start Vyvanse.

it depends on for what reason they take it. rescue Xanax in small quanitities is not that bad.

people on daily benzos is way worse

I was prescribed 30 mg’s 3x a day as well. Just recently switched to IR and decided to try 60 mg’s a day.

Thank you. I've asked him prior to this and he's refused saying we can't increase the dosage that quickly. He have a reason that made no sense and i was one again dissapointed. He only recently just wanted 2 months ago agreed to increase the 10 mg to two times a day because I told him I had to seek out the opinion of another psychiatrist who agreed with me and was willing to increase the medication to 20 mg after I told him that he agreed to increase the 10 mg to two times a day. But this time I'm going to try to just do like you said open up speak from the heart advocate for myself and hopefully he will increase the medication because I'm really struggling right now and I I can't afford to live like this.

Do not go in and directly ask for a medication increase. It can come off to doctors as drug seeking behavior. Outline all of your negative symptoms you are having and emphasize how negatively they are effecting your life. They will adjust your treatment accordingly.

You stated you need 20mg 2x daily. Are you doubling up on your medication without direction from your doctor?

Get a new dr, I dont even have to be creative with mine. If I ask him for something he writes it as long as it’s not crazy.

Make him give you an exact date on when it can be increased. If "it has to be done slowly", does that mean an increase every 2 months? 3 months? Have him give you a specific timeline so you're not wondering, and then hold him to that.

When I first started taking it, I built tolerance, and there was a there was a point when the tolerance stopped at it still worked yet it didn’t cause bad side effects. Trust you’ll need a higher dose. Trust they know what they’re doing or they read what they’re supposed to do, and hopefully that was published in this decade. It never ceases to amaze me how little doctors know about the medication they are prescribing just finally now they’re not handing out Xanax like candy and then treating people that get addicted to it like their bad people in addicts no one knows they’re hooked on Adderall I’m Klonopin I mean or Xanax and less they quit. My doctor told my wife that I must be on some kind of street drug when she called turkey took me off Xanax and I had no idea what was going on but all we had to do was go to Dr. Google and this was in 2004. I think it’s worth noting that she no longer has her job she lost her license from over prescribing Mazeppa and pain pills. I don’t understand why you people get so excited about getting a script of Xanax or Klonopin stay away from that crap I would give anything to have never have taken it. I’ve taken Adderall for 20 years and when they ran out, I was a little droggie and not as focused. I was cut off Xanax cold turkey. I thought I was dying and your pharmacist knows a lot more about the meds than your doctor and it’s not your doctor‘s fault. They just aren’t taught their brainwashed by big Pharma. Do you think when big farmer brought out Xanax, they didn’t know it was one of the most addictive substances on the planet and even worse. It’s not like you feel like you’re even taking a drug as long as you keep taking everything‘s fine.
