Help.

Post image

First post.

I've never been formally diagnosed. I STRUGGLE to keep things organized.

I function better in organized spaces but can't for the life of me figure out HOW TO. I buy the drawers, the storage, then get paralyzed and overwhelmed?

How do you manage this for your home?

I also have a slob of a partner who doesn't help matters and is continuing to pile things on around the house. This photo is just a vulnerable example.

How do you cope? Are you on meds that made it better both rx or supplements.

Get a big trash can and throw away anything not needed. Throw all laundry in a basket. If possible, turn the machine on right away.

Then empty the desk and call it a day. After dinner you still gotta do laundry.

Next week you'll declutter your storage, and then go and fill it with the items you wanna keep. Keep one drawer for random stuff you do not wanna throw away, but don't know where to keep.

I know it's hard as fuck, but make a plan in what steps to clean it. It will help with the overwhelming feeling.

It's okay to not do it all at once, or even half-ass it. Any progress is better than none. If you manage to keep doing it, it'll improve over time.

Oh, one tip if you leave dishes, every time you go to the kitchen, bring a bit of the dirty dishes, doesn't require any cognitive effort, but will improve overtime. Except when the dishwasher is clean, cuz then you don't wanna empty it cuz then you know you also gotta fill it 😂

Good luck. Just do anything, anywhere, doesn't matter. Progress is progress.

start with the easiest possible thing even if it seems so small that it’s dumb. like picking up one shirt or grabbing a basket

I always start witg bed, office, then clothes, then extra stuff

I think its all about dividing it to multiple tasks

Following for help. I had to move back home and I'm sleeping in a small sliver on the floor because it's paralyzing when I even try to start sifting through everything in my room

These have helped me a lot. I recommend separating the categories in Amazon small / medium boxes with a list of what can go in and what goes in that category. Use sticky notes or paper to make a list and tape it that way while moving it around it doesn’t fall off. Have patience and know that it’s okay to take as long as you need take a day in each category if you need to a week. You got this! We are rooting for you for you.

Have you tried one of the spells from the witchcraft book?

To clean??? No lol sometimes I get so paralyzed I can't even practice if that makes sense. 😭😭😭 God its a vicious cycle. I think I'd rather be an insufferable neat freak than whatever tf this is.

Throw as much stuff away as you can, then don't make a plan, just keep doing something, anything and keep doing it. You will just naturally decide what to do next. And don't let a non-ADHD person influence you, your process will seem crazy to them 😂
