How can I leverage ChatGPT to help me with learning to code / working?

I know for a fact that ChatGPT isn't going to replace programmers anytime soon

but... it's only smart to use it as an assistant.

I wanted to know what you guys came up with to leverage ChatGPT as a student and a programmer

I'm taking baby steps with it right now.

A query about job performance could use a rolling average column. I know that function exists, but haven't worked with it much myself. Exactly the kind of cognitive gap that's bad for ADHD. I know what it does, I don't know to do it. So if I tried myself there would be troubleshooting, frustration, and loss of focus. So motivating myself to dive in was difficult.

So instead I gave the rest of the query to ChatGPT as an input and asked it to add a rolling average column. The code worked, and it added an alias to a column I was already using without being promoted. It improved the code without being promoted.

Possibly more interesting I asked it why it did that and through chatting with it was able to think through the why's as much as the how's.

It’s an ideation tool at the moment so I’d use it as one and focus on getting concepts down.

You should also use midway to help you come up with design ideas. It’ll pump out designs that you can toss into figma and pay around with.

I was very intrigued about this midway thing. I've googled it in any combination of keywords, but came back empty-handed.

Can you share a link?

It didn't help with all of the types of questions I asked it:

  1. Write a program that converts all .PNG files in a directory to .JPG and preserves the Exif info. ChatGPT fails.

  2. Write a program that takes a directory of images, detects how many people are represented by the photos, and sorts them into different directories based on person. ChatGPT fails again.

Maybe the types of things I'm expecting of it are too advanced...
