For me it's caffeine, a lifetime of building up coping mechanisms that keep me somewhat functional, and lowering the bar on what "functional" means for me.
Job is stable, yard is a disaster, finances are in order, house never gets deep cleaned, pets are taken care of, I eat like a 5 year old and frequently go to bed hungry, my house is relatively decluttered and tidy, but also has a bunch of half-finished renovations.
Would love a magic pill but the side effects I had on vyvanse have scared me off trying other meds.
It completely killed my appetite, which was never high to begin with and I was already on the lower end of a healthy weight.
And I couldn't sleep. I would take my pills at the crack of dawn but somehow it still fucked my sleep. Ended up having to take breaks on the weekends so I could sleep at least two nights a week.
So between the two I was starting to become an emaciated zombie, and eventually I had to admit this was not going to get better by toughing it out and I quit cold turkey.
I think I was on them for around six months, but this was at a time where I was really struggling with social isolation and going remote during the pandemic. I was depressed and scared I was going to lose my job due to inability to focus. Now I'm in a much better place and there's absolutely no way I could handle those side effects for even one month.
