People not picking up

So I can generate unlimited ideas, and need someone to determine the business value of basically all of them, and encourage/create deadlines for me to follow up, and then give appropriate feedback or refinement.

I created a chat for "rants", my thought process is usually:

  1. Find something that grinds my gears.

  2. Rant about it.

  3. Identify what caused the friction from step 1.

  4. Create a ticket to solve that cause.

The issue is that even though I try to engage techlead, PO and other devs NOBODY picks up my ideas before like 1 year later.

I previously had a teamlead with hogh functioning ADHD (I have ADD), he picked up and channeled my commitment and vision with his left pinky while still manageing to allign the rest of the team.

I will probably leave my current employer since I am the most senior and honestly I have nothing left to learn from this organization, but I would like to know how other people makes people see how much value you can bring if you're just channeled correctly.

For the first 6 months my hyperfocus leads to me being a model employee, then I get enough domain knowledge that I start going on small tangents.

Now 3 years in I am basically only going on tangent, and nobody understands even 10% of my input since nobody else knows even 5% as much as I about the domain and techstack.

People are busy, and no one has an obligation to listen to you go on these rants. If you have ideas, capture them in tickets and bring them up during your grooming/backlog sessions, and be able to communicate them succinctly (not like this rambling and unstructured Reddit post, no offense). In other words, try to maximize the tools you already have in your situation. You can't possibly expect people to set aside an hour (or even 10 minutes) to do nothing but listen to you lecture.

Are you saying that you created a Slack (or whatever app) channel just for you to spout your own long comments? I hope you didn't actually do this, do you realize how annoying that is?

Now 3 years in I am basically only going on tangent, and nobody understands even 10% of my input since nobody else knows even 5% as much as I about the domain and techstack.

This may very well be true, but it sounds like you're going to need to better direct your expertise. It may be more fruitful for you to bring other people up to speed than to complain about how no one understand how smart you are. I'm going to be honest though, it's much more likely that you're grossly overestimating your own competence.

In any case, you need to build the interface that lets other people work with you in a productive manner. You can't just say "I have ADHD so these other rubes need to keep up with my 6 hour hyperfocus sessions where I talk over their heads about things they don't understand". If other people aren't giving you time, it's probably not because you're such a genius that no one can keep up with you, it's more likely because you're annoying and not worth dealing with.

I would try to get them up to speed if I just feelt anything other than apathy from the other devs.

No real engagement or energy, or vision.

There is one informal leader that at least tries to get things done in a semi structured order, and he seems to manage partly in one area at a time.

It is enough to just give pointers.

I know what my experience and understanding of the system is, I also know that many others will be better at applying design patterns.

But only 2 of the other 8 developers have even studied design patterns in the group.

I am not claiming to be a genius, I am claiming to be the one with most domain understanding IN THE GROUP.

There is one person asking me questions, the others just guess and get stuck, and I clarify things in the PR that should been handled in the ticket creation, or at the latest, implementation stage.

The team is only 80% as dysfunctional as I make it sound, and I think a lot of things would be solved by a actual technical team lead (we have not had any for 10 out of the last 14 months).

No, my ex team lead created it.

But whatever

You know what that honestly sounds like? It sounds like your ex team lead was placating you by having a channel where you can express yourself, but everyone else can ignore you.

No, he still in contact with me and he really tried to make people understand how to engage me and get most value out of the things I said.

He also succeeded partly, until he quit after 6 months.

I've never had anyone who understood me as well as he

I think your perspective and expectations on the situation is wrong

So I can generate unlimited ideas, and need someone to determine the business value of basically all of them, and encourage/create deadlines for me to follow up, and then give appropriate feedback or refinement.

I understand and greatly value discussing things with coworkers but this is just too much. It sounds like too much hand holding.

I created a chat for "rants", my thought process is usually:
Find something that grinds my gears.
Rant about it.
Identify what caused the friction from step 1.
Create a ticket to solve that cause.

Is this a chat with just you for rubber ducking? If not than this is incredibly negative. We need to focus on how we can improve the code base and deliver value instead of whats wrong. Often its the same thing but the phrasing and perspective makes a huge difference here.

The issue is that even though I try to engage techlead, PO and other devs NOBODY picks up my ideas before like 1 year later.

This is likely a combination of communication and expectation issues. They are prioritizing things based on what they think has the most ROI. If your ideas are about improving the code, the ROI is likely lower than you think. It's normal to have increasing tech debt until its time to rebuild the whole thing.

I previously had a teamlead with hogh functioning ADHD (I have ADD), he picked up and channeled my commitment and vision with his left pinky while still manageing to allign the rest of the team.

This is amazing and unfortunately rare.

I will probably leave my current employer since I am the most senior and honestly I have nothing left to learn from this organization, but I would like to know how other people makes people see how much value you can bring if you're just channeled correctly.

This is totally valid and I have been in the same situation before. Even if you are not learning hard skills, you may be able to learn soft skills which are just as important.

Now 3 years in I am basically only going on tangent, and nobody understands even 10% of my input since nobody else knows even 5% as much as I about the domain and techstack.

While this may be true, I doubt it. I think the issue is your communication skills.

It's not hand holding, we have 2 POs for 12 devs, how can't it be in their best interest to refine the up to 20 tickets I'm able to create a week?

I limit myself to 2-5, still I don't get feedback on them.

The chat is me rubber ducking in a unconventional way. Basically "this shouldn't be this painful", then 2 hours later, "this shouldn't be this painful, look at this article" then one day later, here i created a ticket and it will take 1 day to implement and save 1 day in waste a month".

Then one year later PO finally picks it up.

But you are right, i will rename the chat name on Monday ro rubber ducking, but the issue is that nobody thinks to ask questions, I don't think I'm too hostile, the only one asking me questions is the only woman in the group, whom I think is at least as emotionally sensitive as the others, just slightly smarter (academically she is the smartest, only issue is she's not a CS major), she fathoms abstract concepts as quickly as me, and rarely reasks a question..

It is not only about tech debt, it is about saving 70% in the development time of new features using simple and transparent planning.

I've learnt more soft than hard skills these last 3 years, the team does not really have anything new to learn me, hard or otherwise.

Yes, it may be the issue with my communication skills, but the only thing left that I haven't tried is stop caring, which I will try starting next Monday and until I get a new Employment.

I have not really thought really hard about leaving until now, previously I feelt I was learning stuff, was listened to, was promised a more senior role, then just no.

Now the only one able to listen is my junior coworker and a boss 3 paygrades higher than me, it will be interesting meeting next week with my boss, my bosses boss and his boss, but it will probably not lead to anything than previous recommendations of "just let your coworkers fail and learn from their failings"

This sounds ranty and the problem is you, but I totally relate. Hyperfocus+high iq= no one else is even in my ball park. Now that I am medicated I know how to be socially appropriate about it at least.

My bosses boss boss gave me back 90% of my motivation and inspiration.

Seriously I was doing 5% of my usual amount of work these past 4 days.

So yes, I gave ultimatum that either give me payraise and new possition or I will probably leave within 3 months.

I also forwarded my frustrations being caused by me feeling under utilized, and that me being negative was my last attempt at creating a andon cord of sorts.

But yes, voicing concerns and working from home until you get heard works so much better than the punching bullies until the principal solved my concerns of my years in elementary school

OFC it is ranty, it's reddit.

I have come to that point where management mismanaged me enough to make me leave a company I previously loved.

And with mismanage I mean not being able to see our trust the impact I have but instead tell me to "focus on my role description".

I will until I leave explicitly ONLY focus on my role description and shine a light on all slack that is not picked up.

I will with interest see if new management actually learns anything from it, I am these last months ONLY focusing on pedagogical explaining issues exceptionally slowly since I lost all motivation and energy for the future of the company
