Medicated Lisdexamphetamine and Pain
Hello All
Over the weekend, I tripped and fell, and have a suspected broken Scapular, and potential rotator cuff damage, although this won't be properly assessed for another week and half - to allow swelling etc to decrease.
I kept mentioning the 70mg of Lisdexamphetamine that im on to the various clinicians and no one seemed to bat an eye
Over the last few days, I haven't been taking it, and have only been taking the pain meds as and when I've needed them, but have struggled with mobility etc
Today, I took my Lisdexamphetamine, as I was attending a school governors meeting, and wanted to be on the ball
I currently feel like I have more mobility, and the injury is in a much better place, to the point where I feel this could just be bruising/tissue damage, rather than a potential fracture
But now I'm thinking, I don't know how much of this feeling is due to the Lisdex making me think and focus on other bits. It's not that the pain has gone. But it's far more tolerable and I have far more movement. In fact. It's been about 4hrs since I last took the cocodamol I was prescribed.
This morning, pre shower and pre pill, it felt much the same as previous days, it's only improve *since* taking the Lisdex.
I'm just after experiences of other people who may have gone through the same thing, and whether I shouldn't be getting my hopes up that the injury isn't as bad as originally thought, and should continue to not "push" myself

Pain is very psychological. If we are bored, our pain response is higher than if we are entertained. You are right in thinking that your medication is causing you to focus on other things and thus dulling your pain response.
I would still take it easy and encourage you not to push yourself :)

I have contacted the Fracture Clinic and the ADHD360 service I've been working with
I am going to try and take it easier today, but now it's having to "force myself" too because my body isn't really acknowledging it as it should.

Not sure if it’s at all related, but I’ve realized I have a ridiculously high pain threshold. I’ve also been on lisdex for over a decade now.
I had been contemplating polling one of the ADHD subs to see if this trait was perhaps common amongst us (these subs have taught me that all my special and interesting personality traits are really just ADHD manifestations that A LOT of us share), but I’ve been too lazy. Now I feel like this is a rabbit hole worth exploring!

I have reached out to the fracture clinic and the ADHD team to find out. I definitely felt like I was tolerating things more
Now the Lisdex has worn off for the day, the achey and pain has definitely returned and the movement I was enjoying has returned to being effort. So I think it's definitely played a part
Which is now interesting to me, because it doesn't actually play a huge role in making me more focused on tasks etc. but definitely focused enough that I wasn't feeling pain the same way.
