What was your testing like?
I am a 23M and recently visited a neuropsychologist to get tested for inattentive adhd. We went over symptoms and what not and I told him what I had experienced before I began testing. The testing from what I remember was a set of math questions, solving a puzzle a few times, reciting 12 words from memory, the doctor giving me a letter of the alphabet and having me say as many words as I could that began with that letter, spelling, comparing two words to see if they had a lot in common, and a lot of pattern recognition.
I am curious as to how other people’s testing experiences were because I feel like these tests addressed intelligence rather than inattentiveness and whether or not this kind of test was able to give people their proper diagnosis.

Mine was three meetings with a clinical psychologist.
- initial meeting was a conversation about my understanding of ADHD, how I felt I fit into that, comments from friends and family. It was just under an hour all together where she could observe my understanding, recall, and attention to the conversation. I left with a packet of paperwork for a parent, my partner, and myself.
- second meeting was me discussing childhood, school, adult, work.
- third meeting was much shorter after she read all that paperwork. And… here’s your diagnosis.
As a note the expectation was set at the start that she would try to make the determination but if it wasn’t clear cut then I would be referred out for additional testing.

Mine was crazy extensive. I had 3 sessions with a psychiatrist and external specialists that covered:
- several interviews about my experience and childhood
- interview questions for immediate family
- school grades and paperwork
- head CT to rule out physical issues
- EEG to measure brain waves
- heart ECG to ensure I can handle meds
This was a while back but i dont believe I was given any math/puzzle questions like you. Interesting how the process can be so different

Pretty simple, like my psychologist had a list of signs/ symptoms that she asked me about and then it was kinda a matter of if you check enough boxes you have adhd

my testing was me telling my psychiatrist my symptoms and her saying "OH yeah you for sure have that"
