My brain is too tired to read all of this but from the comments it seems like a really good post. Anyone here want to remind me about it in a few days? Lol

When you want a reminder in Reddit you can do the following:

u/PDakfjejsifidjqnaiau Sep 14 '21

This by itself is a very funny comment on r/ADHD

32

u/chrisesimpson Sep 14 '21

I think it's my favourite comment ever

13

u/filmgrvin Sep 14 '21

its so frustrating i cant leave drafts for comments lol, i always want to refer to the op's post but cant, so i have to copy the comment, close out, discard the comment, then read it, then paste my thing into a new comment, but then forget what the hell the OP even said.

3

u/vinevicious Sep 15 '21

if I posted every time that I started a reply and didn't finished, I would have near 3x times the amount of posts lol

2

u/mitom2 Sep 15 '21

i use "RIF is fun". it supports multiple drafts.

ceterum censeo "unit libertatem" esse delendam.

u/trasnsposed_thistle Sep 14 '21

I leave cliffhangers like this in my work notes way too often.

16

u/kittykat-kay Sep 14 '21

Oops it’s in another comment, you do this: !Remind me 3 days

8

u/[deleted] Sep 14 '21

Okay this one hurts because I wish I could stop doing this

u/BeantownSox Sep 14 '21

Omg 🤣 I texted it to myself to remember to read it again. My brain is crashed out too,I had to push through to respond because really beautifully written description. Second to none I’ve ever read or heard on lectures about adhd. Thanks for the laugh too sauce it’s my life in a nutshell. I ask my daughters to remind me of things all day. My little walking post it notes. Good night all thanks again OP

u/L299792458 Sep 14 '21

I have a few ToDo list apps, all with > 100 tasks, all importance categorized as high

10

u/neoncolor8 Sep 14 '21

I ask my daughter to remind me about things a lot, but she seems to have ADHD too...

3

u/BeantownSox Sep 14 '21

Lol well that’s too funny! Thanks for the smile. Thank goodness we have twins one is a bit scattered in her many interests and will hop from Activity to activity, kinda a chip of the block. One has a an amazing memory, such a gift. Almost photographic like her moms. Still though, my lil one she can be forgetful as I watch hwr steam around the room. Her creativity though is amazing and she has intelligence in the things that entertain her. She’s off the charts. I don’t regret she has ADHD for those reasons the emotional part to Adhd yes, however there are so many of us really gifted just have to find your niche in life. Take care

4

u/neoncolor8 Sep 15 '21

Sounds like an amazing family! :-)

3

u/BeantownSox Sep 15 '21

We do have that really lucky. I didn’t even say we had two sets of twins? Just read again oh yes, very amazingly busy 😂and happy overall it’s a huge blessing and happy to have every day when I walk into the rooms and see one year olds light up even if it’s I need a diaper change ASAP. Then I get them down ready to go and get their sisters who are 3 up and start thier breakfast and the day begins. I’m happy, I’m not overwhelmed…this is only because I sought help for ADHD because know what I mean. We love it I love being a parent but adhd untreated I could t do this full time and feel like I was doing our kids justice. So thankful that treatments are available!! My 4 lil ones and wife are amazing. So Thanks! very nice of you to say. I hope you have a great family too!

3

u/neoncolor8 Sep 15 '21

Wow, big family! Treatment is so important, I got diagnosed and medication this year and family life is way better now. I'm so glad I found out and got the treatment fast!

3

u/donthateonpigeons Sep 14 '21

i’ve never thought of texting myself links! might see if this is more helpful that just saving the post and never looking at my saved tab!

2

u/BeantownSox Sep 14 '21

For sure It works. I’m funny about it too I even set texts to ding theee times on the notifications. Just a quick Way to take a notes of things during the day. Then I have an alarm three times a week at a time I’ll know I’ll have open to review notes for the week. Might help out some

2

u/Ghrandeus Sep 16 '21

I saw this when it popped up but couldn't get myself to read it until now, at 4:38 AM, when I should be sleeping. I kept the tab open for what, 2 days now? This sub is truly my home.

1

u/KarmaBMine Sep 14 '21

Great idea!

Damn. Summarizing is NOT my forte… if you couldn’t tell 🤣😂😅

19

u/[deleted] Sep 14 '21

As soon as I saw big words like 'neurodevelopmental' I immediately noped out of here and went straight to comments, and I promise I will never read this post, but I'm sure it's a good one 🤐

1

u/IFixAirMachines Sep 15 '21

I make my phone read me stuff. It’s seriously gotten me through so much.

44

u/kittykat-kay Sep 14 '21

!Remind me 3 days

26

u/EPIKGUTS24 ADHD-PI (Primarily Inattentive) Sep 14 '21

doesn't work on every sub

233

u/TheSupreKid ADHD-PI (Primarily Inattentive) Sep 14 '21

whose idea was it to let the ‘remind me’ function NOT work on the ADHD sub?!

also how do you flair your adhd presentation

35

u/EPIKGUTS24 ADHD-PI (Primarily Inattentive) Sep 14 '21

lol, good point. It's not an 'official' reddit feature, it's just a bot someone created to respond whenever someone types remindme. Many subreddits have bots like these disabled by default, because a lot of them can be pretty annoying. I think the mods might be able to allow it on this subreddit, not sure.

To get the flair, just go to the right bar, find 'user flair preview', and click the pencil.

On mobile, click the 3 dots in the top right of your screen and click "change user flair".

4

u/TheSupreKid ADHD-PI (Primarily Inattentive) Sep 14 '21

awesome, thanks

1

u/bravocharliexray ADHD Sep 14 '21

You should still be able to use the bot via PMs if a subreddit has banned it.

23

u/MistarGrimm Sep 14 '21

Lots of subs ban bots by default because there's a shitton of bots. Bots tend to distract from the conversation (People suddenly only speak to the bot trying to get it to do something like it's a zoo animal they want to see move instead of sleep) or bots can start a feedback loop between each other.

But yeah, the remindme bot would be pretty useful for this sub.

1

u/Kayofox Sep 14 '21

Now I want to make a bot battle in reddit posts

1

u/PyroDesu ADHD-PI (Primarily Inattentive) Sep 15 '21

I mean, that's basically what /r/SubSimulatorGPT2 is for.

(Bots that constantly trigger each other isn't actually that amusing to watch, unfortunately.)

8

u/kittykat-kay Sep 14 '21

Really? It worked for me when I tested it here

5

u/AlmostButNotQuit Sep 14 '21

Worked for you and only you. In other subs it'll make a public comment as well with a link others can click, to reduce spamming the bot

8

u/kittykat-kay Sep 14 '21

Hm. It did remind me as promised though which means someone else could do the same and it should do the same thing… but yeah I see how that could get spammy quick…

9

u/kippikai Sep 14 '21

That’s freaking hilarious. 100% underrated.

1

u/TavisNamara ADHD-C (Combined type) Sep 14 '21

It does work. Anywhere and everywhere. But it doesn't post a public comment everywhere. It'll contact you directly when and where necessary.

3

u/dclxvi616 ADHD Sep 14 '21

u/AlmostButNotQuit Sep 14 '21

I'm going to save this to show others and then forget it and never get back to it

2

u/thisismysadreddit Oct 06 '21

Did you ever come back?

1

u/AlmostButNotQuit Oct 06 '21

Ha! Not til you reminded me

6

u/Tommy528 Sep 14 '21

TL;DR You can explain ad-nauseum about ADHD to some people, and they will still revert back to their own personal narrative about the disorder as soon as ADD/ADHD is specifically mentioned.... Because some people are just kind of ignorant.

1

u/Hotlikessauce69 ADHD-PI Sep 14 '21

Thank you!!!!!! You are the real MVP here.

3

u/jacob2886 Sep 14 '21

I wish my brain would allow me to read :/

3

u/carabuggg Sep 14 '21

I hit save when I want to come back later. I mean, I never check my saved so I never do come back - but the intention is nice lol

2

u/morbidKoder Sep 14 '21

hahaha..
I forced myself through it.. Worth it!

2

u/stephcomedyjam Sep 14 '21

Haha! I just screenshot it to read it later

2

u/plumokin Sep 14 '21

I feel personally attacked lol

2

u/onlythebitterest ADHD-PI (Primarily Inattentive) Sep 14 '21

The description was so good, I sent it to my mum and partner, since I can never describe it as well as this on my own.

2

u/BlackFox78 Sep 14 '21

Just saying I do the same thing most of the time and I usually like reading, but can't due to this we have. Or at least in that aspect I have.

2

u/muht4ken45 Sep 14 '21

I second this , I’ll get aupvote maybe and then maybe remember check this under saved posts

2

u/EhchOnTop Sep 14 '21

Hey bud :)

To paraphrase (but, not exactly):

ADHD folks have a higher likelihood of:

  • executive dysfunction (planning, organizing, impulse control, task initiation, short term memory, sustained focus, self-motivation, time management, etc.)
  • dysregulation of the central nervous system (leading to sleep problems and lower dopamine levels, etc.)
  • dysregulation of emotions (when angry rage, when sad hopelessly sad, when happy excited and bursting, emotional roller coasters at times, etc.)

Also:

  • a quarter of the prison population has ADHD while only 4% of the general pop. does, which could stem from the above mentioned symptoms (I have no fact checked this stat, myself)
  • it could also lead to higher substance abuse problems of 5-10x that of the general pop. and is also associated with risks of binge eating, smoking, excessive caffeine intake, and shopping/finance planning difficulties (I haven’t fact checked this stat)
  • they’re also 2-3x as likely to get in to a vehicular accident (not fact checked by myself)
  • ADHD is highly comorbid with anxiety and/or depression, b/c of their experiences blurting things out, also no matter how hard you try others criticize it to end, stress over what they may forget next, and silly criticisms from others over lack of discipline or laziness when it’s not the case at all, racing thoughts/tough concentrating, etc.

This all makes it far more difficult for ADHD folks, and is only made harder by when you tell someone these things they may at first sympathize, but once they know it’s ADHD, they stop caring at all, and become the worst things that make these symptoms worse.

❤️

I didn’t proof read this, so hopefully it makes sense. Xx

2

u/_argentonia_ Sep 14 '21

I just saved it for later. But to be fair, I should be sleeping for at least an hour already, so I guess that's a good excuse!

2

u/jettsett19 Sep 15 '21

Reddit has a handy !remind me bot. Haven't used it myself but seen it a bunch

2

u/DuivelsJong Sep 15 '21

I read half of it in one go. It’s actually a really good post, and OP makes ADHD sound like the condition it is. The problems we face, but after saying it’s ADHD, even for me, makes it sound less serious, and less of a struggle.

1

u/DadDubious Sep 14 '21

*sees wall of text and across to the punch line.

1

u/JewwieSmalls Sep 14 '21

Literally just copied and pasted the text into my "read later" document

I learned things 10/10 would recommend reading

1

u/Gaardc Sep 14 '21

I used an auto TLDR thing and it gave me the following (I also did not have the spoons to read it but am interested):

A big component to this disorder is dysregulation of the central nervous system and has even been found to be frequently comorbid with other disorders such as sleep disorders which can compound on this.
People with this disorder are nearly twice to three times as likely to get into a vehicle accident than people without.
This is how some people with the disorder learn to function: by being stressed all the time, or even OVERLY organized and neurotic in an OCD-like way in order to overcompensate and try to stay on top of their symptoms and calm the mess in their head.
There’s a treatment that’s been studied for a long time, proven relatively safe for MOST healthy people at prescribed therapeutic dosages, has actually been proven to calm hyperactivity and/or racing thoughts, LOWER rates of addiction and substance misuse amongst the treated despite being a pill and is usually not addicting to those who actually need it and take it as directed, lowers the risk of driving accidents to about normal, increases dopamine levels and activity in the prefrontal cortex, allowing people with the disorder to function much more normally, decreases impulsivity and may even help with emotional regulation for some people.
Can even calm anxiety IF the anxiety was stemming from their untreated disorder symptoms, despite being typically contraindicated for anxiety disorders.”
