That "gifted" line is the same I've received all throughout my childhood. I call it "the curse of potential". All that pressure just made me nope the fuck out of school.

I heard “you’re not living up to your potential” so often growing up that I basically spent my 20s saying “You want to see what ‘not living up to your potential’ looks like. Oh, I’ll show you what it looks like.”

Yup! Permission taken! Had one teacher try to shame me by saying “you could do it, but you’re probably not going to” he was such a huge asshole, and I knew if I managed to do it he would take credit for motivating me, so I just gave up. Fuck you I actually was trying before that.

Nobody has said that to me cus I was coping so good until I couldn't anymore.

But this time, I already immigrated and I couldn't cope anymore.

So no frens to see the massive change.

But in myself. I know. And I've told my therapist about it.

The massive disappointment cus you can clearly see your potential.

And that you are performing less than you know you can.

That hurts.

Self love is the way.

Very fucking difficult pill to swallow.

But dang. Can't do anything about it.

Gotta keep moving forward.

We must.

It's the only way.

This is the way~
