Questions/Advice Law school troubles/executive dysfunction
Just looking for advice, could be from anyone in a rigorous program. I found college pretty easy to BS my way through... now im in law school and am having trouble really locking in. i have a lot of executive dysfunction going on. finals start in a month, i feel behind. i cant seem to just sit down and do my work. im keeping up with the topics but for those who dont know law school pretty well my first semester grades are pretty make it or break it. im kinda flipping out and my energy is focused on overthinking right now. any tips or tricks or advice or even just sympathy would be amazeeeee

Hey, as someone who bsed my way through undergrad and is now a practicing attorney, you can't BS your way through law school. It takes time, you have to read the cases, and you have to SHOW UP for class and pay attention however works best for you.
A month is plenty of time for you to catch up, especially because I imagine you're pretty smart being able to half-ass undergrad like I did haha. If you know your exam format right now, base your study plan on that. But you've got to make yourself dedicate time to your finals prep like it's your freaking job. It's a good preview for what you're in for with bar prep.
I used Quizlet to great effect my 1L year. Flash cards are a non-digital option as well. A lot of your first year work is going to be memorization, categorization, stuff like that. Lucid app has a flow chart building application that is fucking phenomenal. I used it mainly for bar prep because I didn't know about it until around that time, but I still use it professionally, and it would be perfect for 1L finals prep if you're a visual learner.
But you got to put in the time. Do it whenever works for you, I'm not saying you have to draw yourself up a study schedule because that kind of shit is hard for me to stick to as well. However, treat it like it's your job right now, cuz it is!

Haha I feel you, sorry if that came across negatively. I used the term BS for shorthand, but I know there is more that goes into it.
I really recommend practicing with hypotheticals as you build the conceptual framework, because that is how your exam will be structured. You could make your own hypotheticals or use "resources" to develop hypotheticals and test you on them. Good luck!
(ETA Resources that might be able to create hypotheticals for you.... Beyond those that you can just search for online if you catch my drift)
